Guest guest
Hey Lorrie, I bruised easily prior to my diagnosis...however since my diagnosis I go thru cycles where I bruise at the slightest touch. Perhaps it's the drugs, perhaps it's the changes my body is going thru, perhaps it has something to do with my monthly cycle (since it seems to get worse about a week prior). My hematocrit and other blood values have always been good (with the exception of a 2.4 creatinine level) even during these heightened bruising times so my doctors have yet to give me any explanation. I find eating higher iron foods helps to reduce the number of bruises I end up with (Malt o Meal is great for high iron). I'm in the midst of one of these heightened bruising times right now and I stopped counting when I hit 25 bruises this past week. Most of them are from my 7yr old climbing onto me when we read our nightly story, in the spots where my arm and leg hit the side of the bed when I get up, and where my body contacts the work out equipment at Curves. Oh and a lovely new one from having my blood drawn yesterday.....I told her the vein was going to blow out on her due to it being used for anesthetic just a few weeks ago....she didn't believe me. darn lab techs think they know everything...... Amy G. Bruising Hello everyone, Happy Holidays. I was wondering a few things. First, does easy bruising go with igan? Does anyone else bruise as easily? Second, is there any relationship between a " thinning renal capsule " and igan? No one seems worried but are not really explaining anything either. I really appreciate this group. Thanks for listening. Your input is helpful. Lorrie __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Anemia causes easy bruising. Prednisone causes easy bruising. More advanced chronic renal failure may cause more bruising because platelet function in the blood becomes abnormal. Fish oil might potentially cause easier bruising, since there is a bit of a blood thinning effect. I suspect that a few people with IgAN might have more fragile blood vessels near the skin surface. I can't say that I've personally experienced easier bruising, but I've never been on prednisone for kidney disease. I'm not sure if there's any relation between a thinning renal capsule and IgAN. Not that I've ever heard of, but I guess it could be possible if the kidneys swell. That might stretch out the renal capsule - which is simply a thin, semi-transparent membrane that envelops the outside of the kidney. How did you hear about " thinning renal capsule " ? Guest guest
I have always bruised easily - my entire life! If someone grabbed my arm, ever so slightly, I would end up with brusing that showed fingertip markings. Truly though, since my diagnosis and even with all the meds, I haven't noticed an increase in bruising, in fact it seems to have decreased. Who knows what causes it - a doctor once told me it was due to nothing more than capillaries being closer to the surface of the skin in some people. Surely some of us will be more prone to it due to the medications that Pierre has mentioned. I think though, if bruising of the skin happens suddenly, one should absolutely have it checked out immediately, because it can be a sign of serious blood disorders, i.e. Leukemia. Best think is to have it checked out. Hugs, Rita Pierre Lachaine wrote:Anemia causes easy bruising. Prednisone causes easy bruising.
