Sorry this is slightly OT but I'm pregnant and I'm wondering if having

professional highlights during pregnancy could harm the fetus? My appointment

is in

the am. Is this myth or fact?

Thanks! Sharon

Hi Sharon, when I was pregnant in 1996, I was told NOT to dye my hair at all

and luckily I didn't have to cover any gray like I do now! LOL If I got

pregnant now, boy, I wouldn't know what I would do, probably use a Henna dye to

cover gray.

But I have heard that many women now CAN dye their hair and it's perfectly

fine. I heard using Henna dyes are safer and much better. If you look at a lot

of celebrities, for instance Ripa from Live with Regis and , her

second pregnancy she stayed brown haired and was told it was not safe to dye

her hair, then her third and most recent pregnancy she dyed her hair blonde

again and she publicly spoke out about it that she was told it was safe, so she

kept her hair blonde the whole pregnancy. So honestly, I am not really sure,

one day they tell you something is safe, the next they say it's not safe.

Hope that helps some? :)

Hi Sharon,

I am a master colorist and usually tell my clients that as long as the

color doesn't touch the scalp I wouldn't be concerned.I constantly am on the

lookout for studies that determine whether or not haircolor on scalp will

cause a problem.I try to use good quality colors(Joico) is olive oil

based. Also, don't brush or scratch your scalp the day of the color

treatment.

I don't believe this is a problem.
