Guest guest
Am I reading this correctly, you gave 1 MILLION IU's of Vitamin A - TWICE???? May I ask on who's advice you did this? This is most definitely not the protocol recommended by Dr. McCandless and others and sounds extremely dangerous. [ ] Vitamin A toxicity in 15 year old NT girl Dear , Thank you for replying! The first dose (over 1,000,000 units) on Sunday did not seem to affect her. In fact, she asked for more, which I said no to. She did mention having a slight headache, but I was looking for a rash to indicate toxicity. She was fine for 4 hours after the same million unit dose on Monday, yesterday. Then the headache, eye ache, really kicked in. It was really bad! I was quite frightened for her. She never did get a rash, so in my opinion a rash is not always going to show up, so those who think so really should expand their knowlege of the Vitamin A process before advising others. In hindsight, I wish I had thought ahead to the elimination of the load. I would have given her some laxative herbs to help. I didn't wish to give her any tylenol or any other substance because if her liver and kidneys were already overloaded, why make it worse. She couldn't keep anything down, not even two drops of water, so the flushing benefit of water was not available to her. I was able to help however by soaking a washcloth in hydrogen peroxide and keeping it on her head. She also has taken two peroxide baths, and reports improvement after each one. I also gave her a tsp of epsom salts in lemonade, which stayed down, hoping to see some elimination. On the positive side, her eye twitching has completely stopped. Before this she had very frequent twitching, and complained bitterly about it from time to time. Also, her knees frequently make loud cracking noises, which has not occurred at all since the doses. >From what I read on Dr. Volpe's website, it is more effective to give the two large doses (with proper preparation to gut health) as opposed to building up with gradual small doses. As she is getting back to normal, I am hopeful that improvements will continue. She received vaccinations as a baby up till the age of 15 months, at which time in addition to overruling my concerns about her having a cold, the nurse accidentally gave her an extra MMR, to which she acutely reacted severely by falling asleep within seconds of receiving the shot, getting a hard, hot lump at the vaccination site, and then for months afterwards frequently stopping and bending involuntarily as she scooted around on the floor - which I interpreted at the time as being seizure-like, admittedly subclinical but still evident. Guest guest
IMO--that was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much Vit A. 400,000 on 2 consecutive days is the absolute outer limit. Dr McCandless just warned everyone on another list that you do not treat to the point of toxicity and that if these abuses don't stop, the FDA or someone is going to catch wind of this and Vit A will no longer be available to us! > Am I reading this correctly, you gave 1 MILLION IU's of Vitamin A - TWICE???? > May I ask on who's advice you did this? > This is most definitely not the protocol recommended by Dr. McCandless and others and sounds extremely dangerous. > > > [ ] Vitamin A toxicity in 15 year old NT girl > > > > Dear , Thank you for replying! Guest guest
Why did you give her so much? I thought the max was 400,000? Rash appears to be one of the more common toxicity symptoms, but there are other symptoms also. Here is my page, which starts with Dr. McCandless' recommendations [including her list of symptoms] http://www.danasview.net/vitamina.htm I have this list of symptoms that I need to find time to add to that page Symptoms of vitamin A toxicity: Bulging fontanelles (infants) Bone pain or swelling Craniotabes (infants and children) Skin and hair changes hair loss seborrhea cracking at corners of the mouth Irritability Decreased appetite Poor weight gain (infants and children) Vomiting Drowsiness >>She never did get a rash, so in my opinion > a rash is not always going to show up, so those who think so really > should expand their knowlege of the Vitamin A process before advising > others. Very true. I mention that my kids get the rash, but other kids don't, they have other symptoms. > I was able to help however by soaking a washcloth in hydrogen > peroxide and keeping it on her head. Very nice that you found some things to help with the symptoms! > On the positive side, her eye twitching has completely stopped. > Before this she had very frequent twitching, and complained bitterly > about it from time to time. Also, her knees frequently make loud > cracking noises, which has not occurred at all since the doses. Nice to read there were some good things. Dr. McCandless also sent me an email about this message. I will post the relevant portions here " Dear Dana: I just received word that someone on the A-M list gave their child a huge dose of Vitamin A, (over a million iu at once) with subsequent headache and illness. Since I am not on that list anymore, I am asking you to please intervene and ask those listers to adhere to the recommended dosing. If a child does not have measles to use up the vitamin A, and their gut is functioning well enough to absorb all that Vitamin A, the risk of toxicity is great and could be disastrous in our ability to even use this supplement any more. As you know, the FDA is watching us and will use any excuse to take a nutrient off the market and make it a prescription drug if they can. " I will mention that my own son required more than the " recommended dose " , but he did not require 1 million IU for two days.
