I am now 3 months post-op, and have been managing Siunshin for a couple of weeks already, plus other kicking kata. I couldn't train karate at all for about 5 years pre-op. Yosi HI Yosi: I started out in the Yamaguchi line of Japanese Goju. Our chief instructor is Shuji Tasaki, who was Gogen Yamaguchi's chief instructor in the Tokyo dojo until about 1972. Our school or " Kai " is called Seiwa Kai. My instructor is Leo Lipinski, a 7th Dan who lives in London. I have a 5th Dan, which I got in Japan about 4 months before my first resurf. Yes, OUCH! We follow the JKF Goju Kai " way " , which has united Japanese and Okinawan Goju. Sounds like you're right on track. I'd take it very easy with the kicking kata for at least six months or until you feel ready, whichever occurs first, especially since you haven' t trained for so long. It's a long uphill climb, and I trained until two days before surgery so I know. Best of luck, Des

Guest guest
Hi Des, While in Israel, I used to train under Leon Pantanowitz, 6th Dan and Sensei Higaona, 9th Dan, who is based in Okinawa and San Diego. I was 4th Dan, and used to run 2 dojos. Yesterday, for the first time since my resurf on November 4, I had a twinge of the same pain that I used to feel pre-op. Did you ever experience anything like that? I am really worried about it. No pain now, but maybe I should take it easy for a bit? Thanks Yosi > In a message dated 1/31/2004 9:23:53 AM Pacific Standard Time, > gwynnethgeorge@y... writes: > Hi Des, > Out of interest, who do you train under, and is it Okinawan or > Japanese Goju Ryu?
