Guest guest
See, he obviously didn't take the time to do a little research on bugleweed or alternative treatments, did he? I feel like sending him a link to my site! Thanks for sending the link Zoey, Pam B. -- Re: Re: Dr. Weil - The Case Against Soy Hi Jody and others, I hope I'm not intruding. The last I heard, Dr. Weil was also an advocate of RAI and surgery for HyperT. Guest guest
Ahh Gheez... I had not seen this: The last I heard, Dr. Weil was also an advocate of RAI and surgery for HyperT. See link below: http://www.drweil.com/app/cda/drw_cda.html-command=TodayQA-pt=Question-quest ionId=3802 Thanks Zoey... I gave up on him after I picked up one of his books a few years ago and looked for Hyper and Graves' and he recommended KELP ! Guess if his 'victims' since then have been loading up on kelp, they would believe RAI or surgery would be relief at last. Funny, but reading that page, it was word for word from somewhere else ??? Until the very last paragraph, which I believe is very close to somewhere else that I have read, with small changes in the sentence structure. If you have ever tried to find vitamin info on his site, you get lost is big money $$$$ they want you to spend and then you get no more info. Much like some garden writers I know, that write, and sell, but have never had a garden. I had one of them at the store I managed for years, and learned to avoid her, since she took time away from my customers, and then used my words, just fancied up, and still has a regular newspaper column here, and speaking engagements...with no question and answer period. Just got tired of giving it away. Though my weekly entertainment is still finding her column and counting the errors. I need a real life. :-) -Pam L-

Guest guest
Me neither Holly, except if he is going to act as an expert and answer questions as one, he should do a little more research than he did to answer that question. Your GP is honest enough to say " I don't know, you need to talk to a specialist " when he doesn't know. Dr. Weil didn't do that. And for a doctor to claim to be on the " alternative side " , he didn't know a think about treating Graves' naturally. And for all his training as an MD, he didn't even mention ATDs. Pam B. -- RE: Re: Dr. Weil - The Case Against Soy Let me just jump in here, not to defend Dr. Weil, but to be fair. Most docs out there don't know a darn thing about Graves' disease or thyroid disease in general. That's why there are specialists. My GP told me that basically RAI was the choice for treating my hyperthyroidism, and that surgery was an option and not recommended. He also pointed out, though, that GPs have very little training in that area and that's why many patients go undiagnosed for so long. It's just not something they think about. Right or wrong, that's the way of things right now. I wouldn't expect Dr. Weil to know any more about this specialty area than the basic family practitioner does. Guest guest
I agree I thought it strange that he didn't even mention ATDs. At least my GP knew to start me on PTU until I could get in to see the endo. Holly RE: Re: Dr. Weil - The Case Against Soy Let me just jump in here, not to defend Dr. Weil, but to be fair. Guest guest
Holly, If he's putting himself out there as the guy with the answers, he ought to have done the research. There aren't too many individual doctors as well known as he is, or as trusted. He's marketed himself very, very well over the years, and it's awfully irresponsible of him to have his ego out-trump his knowledge. Not to even mention ATD's is bizarre in my book!
