I'm not really sure why that is. It might come down to where the specific mutation occurs on the collagen chain that contributes to more early problems. But, if you look at Betty and her beloved son Danny (and many others) - they have the same exact mutation. It presented with more problem earlier for the son's than their mothers'. Why is that?
