Yes this is a common side effect. Lay as flat as possible and drink lots of

caffeine. Do not get up unless absolutely necessary. Moving around can cause a

spinal headache. I was bedridden for 2 weeks after mine.

I had a lumbar puncture done yesterday (spinal tap), and I thought I was

doing well. But when I was getting out of the wheelchair to get into my

car I was just nailed by this terrible back pain. It extends from the

level of the puncture site (small of the back, about L4 vertebra) down

about six inches. I can't walk without bending completely at the waist. I

have some relief following several hours of lying on my back, but after I

get up it returns. It is absolutely *excruciating*. I am unable to find

this symptom listed as a common side effect of lumbar puncture.

Has anyone had an LP and had this problem? Or even with an epidural?

TIA,

Em

That is the most common side effect to a LP. I get them regularly, and I

live on Iced tea and coca cola. Lay down and close your eyes, and you will

be fine. It usually lasts a day, or longer. It is because your spinal

pressure has dropped since the tap.
