I don't remember Dylan having any crawling problems although most all my boys crawled very little. They took off running. For fourteen years I had padded furniture! There was always a baby in the house. With Dylan it was more of a verbal delay. He would hit my leg and yell at me. My friends would ask me what he was saying. I said I didn't know, but I didn't like what ever it was, and smacked his little bottom. He was so frustrated by not being able to communicate. No body yells at Mamma! Really, I wasn't mean, I would sit on the floor and try to talk to him. Try to understand what he was trying to tell me. I guess the youngest of 5 doesn't get the same one on one that a single child does. Poor kid, his brothers blamed everything on him. Guest guest
Jo, my son crawled OK, but could not sit up well at all, until he learned to sit like a frog. In other words, if he sat with his knees pointed IN instead of OUT - and the feet were out instead of in. Do you know what I mean??? My cousin and I used to have races on tile floors this way, by scooting our knees together and apart! LOL! If my son tried to sit normally, he would just slump and fall over. He sat this way until probably 4th or 5th grade. I'm not sure if he can still do it or not - I don't think I can, only because I've had surgery on my one knee. Love Lana Another stupid question - crawling Okay, I have yet another stupid question to add to my ever so long list! You must really despair of me when I get into one of my " curious " moods like this, hee-hee! Anyway, what I'm wondering about is whether anyone else here or their kids have had issues with crawling as a baby at all. I was talking with my parents the other night and somehow the conversation got to when I was a baby. Rather interesting they both said that I could not crawl properly and never actually did. To get around I would either scramble backwards or sit upright with my legs splayed out at the hips then bent in at the knee (kind of like the lotus position) and do a sort of frog bounce across the carpet!! Gosh, I must have given my parents and guest hours of free entertainment with that particular party trick! So I got to thinking, could my strange crawling and hopping have been to do with my EDS at all? I was wondering if my inability to crawl properly was from my joints and muscles being weak or painful? I am also wondering whether the fact I was born with shallow hip sockets and dislocating hips contributed to my comfort and ease in the lotus position and frog hop movement? I had never really considered it until now, but perhaps the EDS/Marfan and my various skeletal deformities were already playing a part in my development. It's just another strange curiosity of mine but I thought it was worth asking to see if anyone else here had a strange crawling or childhood movement issue. Thank for listening and allowing me to have my stupid question moment again! Love and hugs....Jo xxx To learn more about EDS, visit our website: http://www.ceda.ca _____

Guest guest
Jo, I too didn't crawl i did a scoot thing on my bum, I am told I sort of sat up with my legs out front in a sort of V position and sort of brought my leg in and sort of hopped forward. I never actually crawled EVER and when I started walking I used to fall over and bump into everything all the time (I was that clumbsy etc that Mum took me to the doctor when I was 4 and he said I was unco-ordinated and recommended that Mum put me into ballet to make me more coordinated, which she did) Pity it was EDS and ballet in fact made me worse (well it is the cause of hip/pelvis issues). Mum said i always as a child (well really I still do) fell over, walked into walls, doors, cupboards and the freezer etc and so on. Never really thought to much about it but now it screams EDS to me. The other thing that my family did which screams EDS to me is that we used to sit in FULL lotus position and then get up on our knees (with legs locked in lotus position) and chase each other about the house (not Mum although she could do lotus as easy as us kids). My sister and I (i have an older brother (who scars badly) and a younger sister whose stretch marks are scary they are so deep and purle/burgundy and so many of them) used to lie on the floor and put our feet on the back of our heads etc etc etc. And I don't know if this is EDS related but I can remember when my brother was in his teens and went through a growth spurt, he grew so fast his blood and brain couldn't keep up and every time he stood up (or stood up to fast) he would pass out in a dead faint. AH the joys of EDS!!!!! Sharon > Okay, I have yet another stupid question to add to my ever so long > list! I don't know if it was the shame or the frustration but up he popped! Never to have a crawling problem again. He shows signs of EDS but will not get into that with me right now so I am not sure of the extent. (he does not tolerate sick people or sickness in himself so he rarely talks about illnesses) Since the dress worked so well with him my mom put me in a dress before I even showed signs I wanted to or could not crawl and up I popped in a matter of days MONTHS before I ever was supposed to walk. Of course that is when all the injuries and bruising and lack of control came to show but my parents just assumed they had forced me to walk too soon. EDS was never in the picture when I was young. HA! Not till I was 45 as a matter of fact! LOL! Don't know if this helps but wanted to share. Debbi

Guest guest
I guess I should say that crawling was my brothers choice when he SHOULD HAVE BEEN walking... that is why the dress for him. Me on the other hand... I was the goofy crawling and tumbling kid... but like I said that didn't last long because of the dress ... the goofy crawling and tumbling just flowed over to goofy walking and tumbling! LOL! Guest guest
used to lie on the floor and put our feet on the back of our heads etc etc etc. Me too, Sharon! Everyone used to get a kick out of the " parlor tricks " and at school, I was always in the hall because I was putting on a show with my hands and fingers - even though I didn't mean to all the time! In study hall, I'd write, and pretty soon, someone would say, " Ewwwe, what's the matter with your hands?? " So I tried to explain, and in doing so, it would be, " HORN - OUT IN THE HALL! " And I'd think, well, here we go again! LOL! I spent the majority of my junior and high school days in the hall! Love Lana

I've been reading about Developmental Coordination Disorder, and EDS is mentioned, if it's more severe... late walking, talking, etc, clumsiness....I'm still reading up on it and will try to remember to type up some info for the list. Guest guest
Hi, My daughter is now 18 and supposedly has classical EDS, although most of her problems are vascular in nature. She rolled and sat up as a baby much later than she should have. She didin't learn to crawl until about 9 months, but she would roll over and over to get where she wanted to go, or eventually drag herself around with her arms. Interesting thought...
