Guest guest
His lips have been chapped lately but I did notice them to be a bit red today. If this is an allergic reaction to DMPS, it is horrible news. We had finally found something that was working well enough for him with minimal yeast issues. The DMSA was causing lots of yeast so we switched. ALA alone was the worst with no progress. Can this sort of reaction occur even with positive progress happening??? What is the link for the dmps backfires website? Andy, do you concur that this could be an allergic reaction to DMPS?? Does this mean we need to stop DMPS altogether? If so, I don't know what to do for him. This is what happened to my son only it happened on round three and not as far in the game as yours. You probably should stop using it. It is an allergic type of reaction. Do some internet searching on erythema multiforme and stevens-johnson syndrome. The red marks and the reddening around the eyes are what happened to my son but he also got very bright red lips, too. Did your son get red lips at all? For Ethan, it started on round one, very mild, but by round three it was pretty severe and thankfully we stopped using it. Other kids have had this happen to them before (and there are some things on the dmpsbackfires website that refer to this I think - can't remember for sure- been doing a lot of reading on dmps since this happened). Anyhow, other kids have bounced back just fine but not Ethan. He still has problems stemming from this -- in fact right now his lips are very red and swollen again, eyes itchy, and it just comes and goes... I had some email communications with a compounding pharmacist in oregon who said that this is not an uncommon reaction to dmps. She herself had it, too. Guest guest
Allergic reactions can happen to anything at any time. The body can become sensitized to it over time. I used to be able to be around cats, and then at a certain point I became allergic to them. Same thing for Ethan. When he was little he could be around cats, now he goes in to a home where there are cats and he's having an allergic reaction almost immediately. If I were you, I would stop. I honestly am so glad that my dh did not give Ethan his next dose in that particular round (I was napping) because I really think we would have had to go to the hospital had he given him more of it. It's an extreme reaction, but I have an extremely sensitive kid. Your child might just have the same red marks, etc. as he did this round, and for the next ten rounds. It might get really serious on the next round or you might go ten more rounds before it is as bad as my son's reaction was on that last round. Hard to say. Some people have talked about using bioset to " clear " a supplement. Don't know if it would work in this situation or not. From the DMPS backfires website, Ethan had a few things that meant he probably should NOT have used it. Such as asthma. I also should have thought twice about it now seeing that it has propane in it. I had researched dmps years ago and decided against it, but he was pretty yeasty with dmsa so I decided to try it and didn't really recall the reasons why I had veto'd it in the past. Well, now we are in the same boat as you. What to use... right now, he tolerates a certain brand of colostrum and it is really really helping him. Other than the red lips issue coming and going and his asthma being worse now, this colostrum is making him so consistently 'good' that it's pretty much all I'm going to be using with him for a while. Re: DMPS, some kids do really well on it, he didn't. And yes, the reaction can happen despite the progress. Behaviorally, Ethan was doing great with those three rounds. Here's the website you asked for... http://www.dmpsbackfire.com/reports/default.shtml Some of the testimonials are from IV dmps, and some are from oral dmps. Guest guest
W...My son is very sensitive as well. It's been very tough getting him on the right supps etc that he can tolerate. He's tested metal toxic, especially mercury, & this has to come out but now how to do that? He couldn't tolerate ALA at all, & was very sensitive & yeasty with DMSA. I had tried a colostrum of some sort a while ago & he couldn't tolerate it. He doesn't have asthma though. I haven't been able to speak to the dr we got the Rx for DMPS about this yet. This is very discouraging. Thanks for letting me know your experiences. I did cut the round a bit short & will not do anything else until we know more. When speaking with his doc I asked him about this & he said he has no knowledge of DMPS having propane in it. Where did you get that info? Guest guest
From the dmps backfires website. It says: Dimercapto-propane sulfonate (DMPS) W > > I also should > > have thought twice about it now seeing that it has propane in it. > > When speaking with his doc I asked him about this & he said he has no > knowledge of DMPS having propane in it.
