Patti, I took Evista for awhile, and did fine with it. I had similar

problems with Fosamax. I can take the Actonel, but no Fosamax. I'm using

a different thing for hormone replacement now.

Re: Anyone heard from Patti?

Patti,

You are very welcome! I'm glad you are ok and it was a small GI bleed. Keep

a close watch on the stools as advised. I threw my fosamax and actonel out a

year ago. I didn't bleed but the stomach pain, diarrhea ,and bone pain made

me feel worse. I have heard of Evista, but have not tried it, I hear it

makes hotflashes worse! I tried Forteo, which is an injectable drug similar

to fosamax and actonel. Well that went out the window too! Daily injections.

They need to come up with better drugs for women! Did the Dr. give you any

Prevacid or Prilosec or Nexium for your stomach? They reduce the acid in

your stomach and allow it to heal. Even if your stool color returns to

normal, there may still be some hidden blood there you can't see. This is

called occult blood.

Well best wishes and keep me informed. I'm glad I was sitting here at the

computer when you post popped up.

Sincerely, S.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear you are ok now. I suppose you'll have to be careful now about

taking anything like ibuprophen? I've heard that can cause bleeds. I don't

know. Did they tell you not to?

So, to the rescue again! I'm glad you're here, .

I'm sure others are as well!

Make sure your check out that other drug before you take it. I'd be scared to

take anything else too.

I'm just so glad to hear you are ok.

Hugs,

Hi --

Yeah, I don't think I'll be taking Ibuprofen unless on a full stomach and it's

absolutely necessary. I am going to hold off on the other med, too, until I talk

to the GI doc - I just feel more comfortable waiting.

And, yeah, I agree about -- sure glad she is here!!!

Thanks so much, . Will talk to you soon.

Love, Patti

Hi,

My dad always chews his medication. It sound gross, I know, but he can even

chew a vicodin.

He says it works faster, and it doesn't sit in his stomache, so he doesn't get

pain.

Just an idea. I doubt I could chew my meds. But, it works for him.

BAD IDEA!!! Some medications have a time-release and chewing them can cause

an overdose. If he's going to do this, he needs to check with his doctor

about it first. Some medications might be okay for this, but some can kill

you with an accidentally overdose.

But I do take Actonel- 50 mgs a day- and even with my colitis , it has not seem

to have bothered me. ( Of course though- I'm on medications for colitis- so
