I have had a headache now for over 3 weeks. It is at the back and on the top and

really pounds. I went to the doctor twice who came to the conclusion it was

stress, but I do not feel any more stressed than normal. Could it be fibro

related? I am at the end of my tether with it .Please help!!

If I'm reading this right it sounds almost exactly like certain headaches I

get, too. The back-of-the-head headaches are the worst.

Here's what my neurologist said about them. Once he found out I get

migraine headaches as well, he dx'ed the other headaches as being somehow

related. NOT migraines, but the muscle tension and very painful nature of

this type of headache is somehow related to migraines. Sadly I do not

remember what he called them.

If you don't get migraines that you know of, investigate stress

yourself. The thing that worked for me until quite recently was

chiropractic. One adjustment and I would feel better for a short time;

usually one adjustment would last around one month. Then back for a

" tune-up. " Lately no adjustment has made any difference, I'm afraid.

Two other thoughts. You can be unaware of your stress levels, esp. if you

have these headaches all the time. And second, go see a neurologist. You

should have a CT scan at the very least, to rule out other organic

causes. S/he is more qualified to tell you what this is than your regular

doctor.

Good luck -- I really do feel for you.

*hugs*

Dear Lynda,

I don't have a copy of the fibromyalgia trigger points handy, but I believe

there are two trigger points at the back of the neck up toward the lower

back of the head. Sometimes one side of that hard back of the head will even

swell on one side or both on mine. A Doctor of Osteopathy/Neurologist felt

of that area one time and commented on how tight the muscles were in that

area as well as the rest of my body. I did not know there were muscles

there. This has been an ongoing problem for me. There are weeks on end when

I have an atypical Migraine - no nausea or aura - just terrible pain coming

on one side of the head across the top into the eye. I thought migraines

had to have the other symptoms along with it but they don't. Other times I

will have a different kind of headache and that type goes away for months on

end.

You may need to see a Neurologist who might diagnose it correctly for you.

I'm not sure regular docs would know what to do with this. The only thing

that helps mine is laying in a dark room, with total quiet, with that part

of my head on a heating pad. Or if my husband can massage my shoulders, neck

and back of head it helps tremendously. I also have disks problems in my

neck now after all these years which make it worse too. I have also at times

used a heat/cold Ace neck/knee thing cold on the top of my head which I keep

in the freezer.

It is painful for sure.

I don't know what to tell you except maybe you should see a

neurologist. At least get a Cat Scan. I'll pray for you during this

time.
