Guest guest
WONDERFUL!!!!! I know what a tremendous PITA it is, but once you finally find that perfect dr, oh, it is sooooo worth it. Don't forget to look into SSI once you get the alphabet soup cooking. Even if they say you'll only get a small amount it can be very worth it, because that small amount can change... Good luck!!! -Sara.

LOL! Ok, I called Washington University back today. Called the neuro-psych dept again, left another message. After that I pretty much gave up on them. Now, when the peds office gave me the number of GWU, it was for the central referal line. They gave me three numbers. I decided to call the other two. Called the first one and was told that I would need to take her to the audio/speech pathology dept. Wouldn't really listen to that she had been to an audiologist, couldn't answer what testing they would do there. Transfered me to the receptionist for the dr whos name I was given with that phone number. Voice mail. I am done with voice mail. I call the second number. QA'PLA! Finally. This woman that answered the phone spent a half hour on the phone with me. I explained why we took Cheyenne to the audiologist, what we were seeing, that we had one officially dx'd with ASD yadda yadda yadda. She asked questions, I gave answers, told her about Savannahs testing and what was on her report. She decided that Savannahs dx was pretty vague (ASD/possibly AS). We talked about Dalton (she even said that he sounds very autistic. LOL! Tell me something I don't know). We talked about the lead poisoning. We talked about Atlanta not learning to read and how she just doesn't get it. This is what she came up with: An appt for Cheyenne on May 19th. Said she was going to call me back tomarrow after talking to the doctor. She said that the doctor would proably want to see all the kids. She is a dev. ped who does genetic stuff. Said that she would proably want to test all the kids, find out exactally what is going on with every one of them where we can say this one is autistic, this one has problems XYZ from lead poisoning, etc. Looks like before to long I am going to have some real alphabet soup going on here. Most importantly, I found someone who has half a clue and is willing to listen and test the children and all. So this all is a good thing. And I only had to spend 30 mins on the phone this time. LOL! Guest guest
Georga, SSI is income based, so it would be relatively easy to find out if you qualify. I will find a link for you. Maggie

Guest guest
Also, SSI will tell you no the first time around just on principle. Always apply a second time. Leigh
Guest guest
LOL! When the ped gave me the number for GWU that was one of the first things I asked, before I went into anything else. Yes, they take my insurance, and I don't even have to work at Home Depot. Georga Hackworth Men, can't live with them, can't trade them in for their weight in chocolate. Guest guest
Well, so far so good. That is all that I can say. Hopefully this dr won't have her head up her ass. Guest guest
Yahoo! Maybe you have found your version of our Dr. Amato. I sure hope so. I am still in shock from talking to a doctor that had a clue what I meant when I talked about the kids. It's weird!
Guest guest
Glad you finally got through to someone. Finally! Your appt is right before my son's. Guest guest
Zach was approved right off even with no diagnosis other than developmental delays, but we had a great deal of doctor and therapists evaluations. You were considering applying for yourself correct? I've heard it's very hard to get on for anything other than medical. Try applying for your children too. > Also, SSI will tell you no the first time around just on principle. > Always apply a second time. > > Leigh
