Guest guest Posted April 5, 2003 Report Share Posted April 5, 2003 Hello - As usual, I am way behind reading, but I do have the answer for this one if nobody else came up with it. It really does work on all kinds of ants. Take whole basil leaves (dried ones in the spice section are ok), break them in half or in three and put them in the corners, the doorways, under the base of the table, etc. The ants eat it, but it is poison to them. Non-harmful to the kids, pets and other household occupants, but not good at all for the ants. The only downside is trying not to sweep up the leaves while you are sweeping up the dead ants. Eventually, the ants stop coming in. On a similar line, if there are fruit flies in a house, if you make a funnel of paper, put a piece of ripe fruit in the bottom of a jar and than tape the funnel into the jar so there is just a small opening at the bottom of the funnel in the jar, the fruit flies fly in, but for some reason, they cannot figure out how to fly out. Than I put the lid on the jar and throw the whole thing in the garbage. Guess being a private housekeeper for 15 years taught me some useful things, even if it wasn't how to keep my own house clean. > Last year we had a horrible ant problem. I LOVE IT!!! I get so sick of waiting for the damned things to DIE already after I take all their food away. I hadn't heard of the basil trick! -Sara. I'm not sure if this one was mentioned because I am way behind. But on TV they said for the big ants and the small ones you can use old fashion grits, not the instant.
