Yes , please see a rheumatologist about this. Most have a good

awareness of FMS and believe in it. I don't believe FMS lasts for a

week or even three months. To my knowledge it's chronic, and I have

just changed doctors cause mine said I could grow out of it. Not to

scare you, fibro is not life threatening in any way, and flares of it

can be managed so being fatigued and in pain are not constant. I

don't think doctors rely on FMS as a fallback diagnosis, they will

usually eliminate similar illnesses that mimic FMS. Make sure doctors

have done that, sounds like your daughter has had a lot of tests, so

they probably have dismissed more serious conditions.

My bloodwork and CT's are almost always normal, fibro doesn't show up

on them. Did your daughter's doctor look for tender points?

Seriously, see a rheumatologist and ask beforehand for their

knowledge of FMS. They can really help, and reassure you that this

can be managed. Good luck with your daughter, it's young to be so

sick, but she obviously has a great and caring mom, and we all hope

she's gonna be ok!

Take care

> My name is and I am looking desperately for some help or

guidance. Six weeks ago today my 13 year old daughter came down with

a regular flu like virus. After 6 days, I took her to the doctor who

said it was influenza. Two weeks later, she still had the headache,

body aches, and fatigue, but the fever and sore throat were gone. It

has been six weeks since this started, and she is still in bed with

headache severe enough to prevent her from sitting up, body aches,

and fatigue. She was an active, bright, happy girl until this

happened. She competed in gymnastics, and took several dance classes

weekly. It is so strange to see her in bed. She can only color or

watch TV. Lights and noises bother her; she can't read because of

her headache. Life is passing her by. She has seen an infectious

disease doctor, and a neurologist. She has had her blood tested for

everything, a spinal tap, CAT scan, and MRI. Everything has come back

normal.

> Right now she is under the care of a GP, but I am not sure he is

the right doctor to treat her. He told me this is FMS, but then

again he said he has had other patients who have had fibro for a

week. My understanding of the illness is that it lasts 3 months at

the very least. Right now she is taking Effexor, an anti depressant,

and Zyprexa, a schizophrenia medicine! This is so scary to me, as I

have always fed my kids healthy foods and avoided medicines.

care of a rheumotolgist instead? Do people just assume it is FMS if

they cannot come up with another diagnosis? What else can I do to

help my daughter?

,

Have the doctors tested for any sort of toxin or poisoning? Just

curious. It sounds like it could be FMS, but FMS symptoms can be very

similar to a lot of other things. Or some them are similar, I should

say. I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses to your post here, most

of them with a lot more info than what I can provide you. but if

you're unhappy with what the doctors are treating your daughter with,

than speak up. Did they tell you why your daughter needs this Zyprexa?

Good luck,

Well, I haven't been to sleep since the " incident " happened to my

daughter...she is sleeping with me from now on. I am going to TRY to

get some sleep but PLEASE email me with ANY advise on this matter

(depression, counseling, law, civil suits, etc.). Like I said I need

my Lupie family more then ever because you know having Lupus

intensifies EVERYTHING.

Blessings,

In California
