Guest guest
Hollie, I'm going to be brief here (a challenge for me), but I'm counting on you to ask any specific questions you might have regarding our situation. You wanted to know if anyone put their 3 year old in preschool. Here's what we did... 's hearing loss was identified at birth. At 3 months he had hearing aids. At 20 months he got a cochlear implant. From birth he was enrolled in an early intervention program where he received infant outreach education and eventually speech therapy in the home. His birthday is in October. He transitioned to the public school preschool just two months before he turned three years old. It was a developmentally delayed program and the preschool was special ed. I made sure in setting up his IEP that he would be in an appropriate classroom to suit his unique needs as an oral deaf child with a CI. Yes, there were other children in his class with disabilities and there were also " role models " who did not have disabilities or delays. He spent two years in that class with the same teacher. This year he moved on to the four year old public school program in our neighborhood school, which is regular mainstream education. When he goes into kindergarten next year he will have had three years of preschool and he'll be almost six years old, a good head start for him. He has always gone five days a week. At the special ed program it was half day. One year he was in the morning session, the other year it was afternoon. (3 hours) He took a school bus daily. This year I drive him and the hours are 9:00 am - 2:50. However I pick him up early (the last hour is nap time) He won't take the nap and ended up being disruptive. Some days he has speech or OT services during part of the nap time. So I'm picking him up during the week anywhere between 1:45 and 2:15.
