Guest guest
I have heard that Autistic people are negatively affected by the buzzing and flickering of fluorescent lights. With electric ballasts the buzzing and flickering has been nearly eliminated. Does anyone know if using electronic ballast provide a much better atmosphere for someone with autism? Guest guest
I can tell you they bother me sometimes, especially when they are first turned on, I can 'hear' them. Some kinds don't bother me and others do, some stores are very overwhelming for me because of the lighting. I don't know anything about electric ballasts. I would just use observation to determine what is troublesome and what isn't...if you have a choice though I wouldn't use them. JMO -Sara. Guest guest
Good question! I am very interested in this topic too. Hopefully someone can enlighten us. I was also interested in knowing if there is a possibility that these fluorescent lights in the school classrooms could have an adverse effect on childrens behaviors, autistic or not? I know they have an effect on me, sets off a migraine every time if I'm exposed them for more than an hour. Drives me NUTS. We don't have any in our house. Could be an issue for a very visually sensative person. Also, they make a weird noise, IMO. -christine
Guest guest
This doesn't speak to the mercury issue, but there's an additional reason they may bug your children. They constantly hum, typically a " perfect " B-flat. An inordinate number of children with spectrum behaviors also have absolute/perfect pitch. For these people especially, this constant sound can be majorly distracting! ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 9 Date: Fri, 04 Nov 2005 17:37:47 -0000 From: " Carie " <carrosa51@...> Subject: Re: Fluorescent lights Good question!
