Guest guest
My plea for help about feeling like an incapacitated mental/emotional wreck lately was intercepted by and ANDREW from WHO____KNOWS site. He suggested that I stop chelatig immediately. (which I did not) That I should go SCD ( I really don't do grains) and that instead I should supplement with selenium as it binds better with Hg than chelating can, which only causes more damage. (I am not sayig I believe this, or that I don't. I just want more input becasue of what happened to me next: Now, I am already taking selenium, but he said it needs to be selenomethionine and I cross referenced that with the info in AMALGAM ILLNESS. The book also said to take selenometionine, so I went and bought some. I took maybe about 20 mg form a 100 mg capsule and soon thereafter went into attack from it just like I did when I took some NAC(NAC almost killed me). I read that selenomethionine becomes cysteine after it gives up its methyl group. SO what's the scooop on selenomethionine. It sounds like such a great thing to take!!! Can some people like me just not tolerate it because of high plasma cysteine? Or could something else be going on. Any comments apprciated ~Inga
Guest guest
It is a supporter of Methionine and the METH products supports the Methlyation pathway, one sulfur pathway in your system. You might have an overproduction of methionine in your system. Did you figure out what kind of liver phase you have? That would be one clue for starters. Guest guest
My answer to this is " Hmmmmm..... " as in a lot of physiology as it affects given people simply isn't that easy to figure out. If something makes you feel bad it is probably not a good idea to take it. In many situations if taking something helps it IS a good idea to take it. The risk with selenite is that it is prooxidant. If taken in modest amounts this risk is controlled, and high cysteine people do have a lot of thiol antioxidant around (cysteine is an antoixdant similar to glutathione, in fact the antioxidant power of glutathione comes from the cysteinyl group in the middle of it) and other effects of the selenite may more than outweigh the oxidative stress it causes. The specific use of selenite in lab animals is to induce cataracts, people with cataracts would be well advised to avoid it no matter what, in this kind of situation I think it may be worth considering the use of, or possibly trying if you don't tolerate selenomethionine or selenium yeast and want some selenium supplementation. Andy . .. . . . . . . . > , Inga & anyone else who has taken selenomethione, > > Years ago, when I first took liquid sodium selenite, it made me feel so much better. I wasn't taking any other supplements at the time so knew it was the selenite. I more or less stopped taking it because Andy says it shouldn't be used. Andy recommended that I use selenomethionine, but felt crummy when I took it. Tried it twice, so I quit taking it. Once in a while I take sodium selenite again, and feel fine but I always wonder if I should be taking it. > > I also have high plasma cysteine levels. > > Janet McAuley > >
Guest guest
Inga, Have you ever tried taurine? I think it is made at the end of the Methylation pathway but is supposed to be calming. Don't take my words exactly because everyone might respond differently in any case. But I read that taurine is helpful in people with seizure disorders. Did you read anything about taurine that might be helpful to you? Guest guest
Y E S ! Just got some taurine yesterday and started taking little bits of it, and by morning my anxiety was lifting and continued getting better as I took more throughout the day. I have only taken one 500mg capsule total and am feeling SOOOO much better. Amazing! I feel almost like myself again! Hooray! No, I did not know that taurine was supposed to be helpful in seizure disorders. I only saw that it can help with anxiety, and did it ever! If it helps me in other ways too, what a boon that will be! I have problems with my heart and tachycardia when I go into attacks, although those have gotten fewer, of lesser magnitude, and much further in between. Maybe the taurine will help put an end to that completely. I can only hope! I have some very difficult situations in my life right now that would be rought to handle for even the strongest and healthiest of people, and so having to deal with mercury problems on top of that is challenging to say the least. Taking taurine may just be the ticket for a smoother ride. Thank you for your caring concern, Liz. ~Inga ________________________ on 10/29/04 3:19 PM, Rabbitbrain@... at Rabbitbrain@... wrote: > > Inga, Have you ever tried taurine? Guest guest
You know, I would be careful. I think taurine can be really good, but I think in my son who doesn't have seizures, it might have caused one minor one. He was asleep and did a sudden jerking movement, really banging his head hard on the head board. Dagmar. Re: [ ] SELENOMETHIONINE (ANDY?) >> >> >> Thank you. Guest guest
Inga, I am so Glaaaaad this helped you! I have read your posts for some time and had no clue what could make you feel so awful. I had panic attacks and this stuff cleared it up. Had no idea how bad you can feel without Taurine. It was funny because I noticed it was on the end of that Methylation pathway. Please look into what cofactors are needed for taurine if it isn't in the formula. It might help you more. I hope it does settle this heart issue with you, sounds promising! I took it 3-4 times a day until I didn't get symtpoms to need it. Soon I was taking just one a day. Now I don't need it. Well, occasionally during some PMS days. I am smiling over here. Guest guest
Liz, It mostly took that awful anquished-feeling-like-a-wreck feeling away. I literally had an anguished scowl accross my forehead for awhile there, and felt like I could not deal with things anymore. That is all pretty much gone. I have no clue as to whether it will help in other areas as well yet, however, this morning, I had my dowser test the particular taurine I have . The answers said: YES - I need the taurine to eradicate the anguish symptom, but that also said YES - it can give me seizures if I take too much. Thanks for passing on that info or I would not have known the latter. >>>>>>Please look into what cofactors are needed for taurine if it isn't in the formula.>>>>>> At the risk of sounding stupid, any idea where I should look? ~inga ___________________ 10/30/04 3:21 PM, Rabbitbrain@... at Rabbitbrain@... wrote: > > Inga, I am so Glaaaaad this helped you!
