Guest guest
>> I feel ill. I know I got it from my sump pump and drain pipe efforts. It is just the sort of place a really yucky looking spider might hang out. It was not an upstairs little brown house spider. It was a basement spider. >> Okay, Salli...you just made me feel way better about my little house on the prairie...sans basement...and its little garden spiders. A sump pump just pumps the water out of the drain more quickly. It's also some insurance against minor basement flooding, but at the rate it was going it wouldn't do much. And it is a pretty new pump too. Salli

Guest guest
Oh YUCK Salli!!!!!!! That is HORRID!! I always hated unfinished basements for just that reason. ellen The Spider Drain My basement sink, the one that receives all my washing machine water is plugged up. I ran the snake up and down it and could not get the plug to come out. So I emptied the sink directly into the drain hole below but I noticed that the sump pump was very slow. Last time this happened I cleaned out the drain and dug out something like ten pairs of Enrique's underwear. I hate this job. I have to lean underneath our old stone sink to reach down the drain (I have unplugged the sump pump naturally). The water is black and smelly, but there is no one but me to do it. I dig a bunch of gunk out, and plug the sump pump back in. Still very slow pumping. I finally empty out enough water from the sinks to run a load of wash without overflowing the sinks. I go upstairs and wash my hands. I consider changing my clothes but that would mean I'd have more laundry and I can see that laundry will be difficult until I can either fix this problem myself or afford a plumber. Upstairs I am sitting at the computer looking at email and talking to . Suddenly, he screams, " OH, NO, Oh, my God! " and runs in terror from the room. He is not kidding. I shout, " What? " and he screams, " Oh, it was on you, oh, oh. " I leap up in terror. I don't even know what it is I am terrified of. I am brushing my hair and my clothes and I run to the bathroom, strip naked and shower. He is still shrieking and Enrique is shrieking too, now, wondering what is going on. I put on a long robe and get out of the shower. " What was it? " I ask. " A spider, " he says, " It was running across your back. " I don't want to ask the next question because I think I already know the answer. has seen plenty of spiders. He has killed them for Enrique. " Was it really big? " I ask. He nods. His eyes are really big too. " Was it...thick? " I ask. He nods again. I feel ill. I know I got it from my sump pump and drain pipe efforts. It is just the sort of place a really yucky looking spider might hang out. It was not an upstairs little brown house spider. It was a basement spider. We go into the computer room, I with a wet towel and he, well, actually he will not enter the computer room, but stands just outside the door. I have to find it and kill it. I turn over a cushion. No spider. There is a sweater of mine on the floor. I shake it very gingerly. A horrid black thick-legged spider falls out and I smush it. Then, feeling even iller, I carry the towel that smushed it into the bathroom where I find the body and flush it down the toilet. Enrique is waiting for us in the living room. " What is going on? " he screams. I am not sure he wants to know. But he will be hysterical if he does not know. I explain to him that it was a basement spider, not the upstairs kind. He has barely been able to enter the computer room since. And yesterday I killed SIX little brown house spiders of which Enrique only knew about two. Spider Heaven. Or Spider Hell, since I keep killing them. Salli, shaken

Guest guest
Smushed won't do. I just find it funny in some weird way that you have one that is deathly afraid of spiders and I have one that thinks that spiders are really cool, and the bigger and hairier the better. I think in the natural relm of things this all balances out. Kids are weird. Guest guest
Will I seem too weird if I confess that I think spiders are cool too?
