Yep- I too would like to hear some feed back on this question. I am only two

week on WW but last year I lost about 3o pounds on my own from about February of

2003 until May 2003. My BIG thing was walking and I started to run. I would

stay on my healthy eating and I was walking walking walking and it just STOPPED

coming off. All my co-workers said I was turning fat into muscle, I was losing

inches etc. etc...but I don't want to be fit and over 200 pounds! I wanted to

see the scales move. I got so discouraged that I eventually went off the wagon

and by spring of 2004 I had gained all but about 5 pounds back!

I'm OP every day, eating my AP's sometimes, flex points sometimes.

I exercise every other day (walked five miles in the pouring rain

and wind at Cannon Beach on Saturday!! Hooah!!). I've lost exactly

20 pounds now since about June. The poundage is just not coming off

as fast as I would like (only doing about an average of four pounds

a month!), but in the last month alone, I've lost a grand total of

13.5 inches.

That's more than a foot of flab.

My question is, does the weight eventually start catching up? I

mean, I LOVE that my clothes are hanging on me and I love working

out and I feel great. But I would like to see the pounds coming off

as well. I've been working out steadily since about mid-summer.

Thanks!!

Hi. Your WL sounds perfectly normal. If you lose it too fast...you will shock

your body...be patient, and enjoy your journey.

Your weight loss target should be 1-2lbs lost per month. So you are on target

if you are losing about 4lbs a month. Your body can metabolize fat only so

fast. Any faster weight loss, realize is likely either water weight or your

body cannibalizing muscle.

Also, the more you exercise, the more your body adjusts to your workout

program. I suggest changing your workout program every 90 to 120 days. Your

body will reach a plateau with eating and also with activity. If you like

walking, instead of going for distance, you could go for speed or do hill work.

I suggest talking to a personal trainer to help you overcome an exercise

plateau. Also if you are on a regular workout schedule, and you are going to

take a new direction, I suggest taking a week off of exercise and then starting

your new program. That is a really good way to jump start your metabolism

again.

I know a lot of people train the same way day after day, but if you don't set

progressive goals with exercise, you won't progress.

People who store fat efficiently are still efficient at storing fat when they

are exercising. I have found that people who have trouble losing weight have to

do a whole lot more to lose weight than people who don't have trouble losing

weight. It used to really make me mad that I did all of this exercise and still

had trouble losing weight. I wanted to exercise and be able to eat what I want.

I have found that I have to exercise A LOT and be really good on WW to lose

weight. I have struggled through two plateaus and I just finished a triathlon!

So it isn't just about the amount of exercise, it is about changing it up so

your body doesn't know what is coming. A personal trainer could probably

explain it better.
