Wish me luck though!!! You have all the luck you want from me. I thought what you said was interesting because my neurologist acted like because my MRI came back with no lesions, I didn't have MS. She maybe have used the MRI in addition to something else though that I'm not aware of. Darcy

Guest guest
Anne, I've been through biofeedback, physiotherapy, tried ever drug and exercise known to man (well not really, but I'm sure you get my drift :-) Most of it has been next to useless. I have fibro, arthritis, vertebrae spurs, herniated discs, and lumbar and cervical stenosis. A few years ago, I had surgery on my lower back and it helped a great deal for the leg and lower back pain, but did nothing for the rest of me. I still hurt, trip over dustmites and drop things, and so the docs keep looking for MS. But..... I had my first steroid injection ever (C3 thru C5) on December 10th of this year. For two days after, I felt like I had been run over twice by a large lorry. Then on day three, the steroid started working. Not only did it lessen my almost constant migraine, it also improved my fibro and the other symptoms. I haven't walked into a wall for the past week! I have another injection scheduled and a meeting with a neurosurgeon to discuss surgical options. I figure if one steroid injection could make that much difference, I am going to go for the whole ball of wax!! They can do a maximum of three injections in six months and I'm gonna get all three. I've been sick for fifteen years and this week is the best I have felt since 1991. I figure if the doctors wanna use needles and if they wanna chip and drill and smash - I'm gonna let 'em! Guest guest
Anne, When reading your post I have a question about the MRI. Did the MRI read normal. I thought that an MRI is one way of testing for MS, it should show lesions of plaque. Did your neuro tell you that it means MS. I'm scared I have many MS symptoms and my MRI was normal. I was relieved, now I don't know. Please respond. Happy Holidays Dana
Guest guest
I will know more next Thursday but I've been told from people at a couple MS sites that the lesions don't always show up on the MRI if they are new and very small. I don't know this as fact but I will know next week and will let you know. Anne Re: MRI results Anne, When reading your post I have a question about the MRI. Did the MRI read normal. Guest guest
Dana - this is from the MS Society website regarding MS not always showing up on MRI. " It should be remembered, however, that approximately 5% of patients with clinically definite MS do not show lesions on MRI, and the absence of demyelination on MRI does not rule out MS. Also, since many lesions seen on MRI may be in so-called " silent " areas of the brain, it is not always possible to make a specific correlation between what is seen on the MRI scan and the patient's clinical signs and symptoms. In addition, with advancing age (probably over age 50), there are often small areas seen on MRI in healthy people that resemble MS but are actually related to the aging process, and are of no clinical significance. Guest guest
When I had my MRI's, they injected me with something to enhance the image. Sometimes in order to see any lesions, if there are any, they need to inject you with the enhancer. They usually do a " before " scan and an " after " scan, the after scan showed lesions that the " before " scan didn't. I cannot for the life of me remember what they call it. Guest guest
Rhonda, I believe its just usually called " contrast material " . Depending on your diagnostic center the actual drug can vary. I can never remember what the name of the material is thats used at the facilities that I go to. But over the years, I have noticed that it changes. Anyway, the contrast really helps enhance the images to better highlight any abnormalities. Ever since my first surgery I've had to have the injection in the middle of the films. I've never had a reaction to it. This link is a good explanation of what contrast material is and why its needed. http://radnuc.lhsc.on.ca/uwo/LHSCcontrast.html HTH, Nikki > When I had my MRI's, they injected me with something to enhance the image. > Sometimes in order to see any lesions, if there are any, they need to inject > you with the enhancer. Guest guest
It's not a dye. It's a contrast agent called gadolinium. You have to sign a consent form for them to be able to inject you with the stuff. Do you remember if that is what it was called? I'm just curious. Rhonda Re: MRI results > Trust me, I've been injected w/ dye. My MRI's took 2 days. Thanks for the info though. > > Anne

Guest guest
I think this is just iodine. They used this on me for a cat scan once and I was severely allergic to it. Now every time I go to the Dr. and they ask me for allergies I have to tell them this. Sincerely, Pamela Rauch Re: MRI results > Trust me, I've been injected w/ dye. My MRI's took 2 days. Guest guest
Hi all, Thanks again for everyones concern. I just recieved the results from my MRI of the brain and it pretty much said the same thing as the CT. There are areas of hyperintensity but nothing that is suggestive of anything serious although the doctor's report did say they could be changes of chronic small vessel disease. Could that be related to VEDS?? My GP is referring me to a neurologist just to be sure. Also I think she said that the neurologist she is sending me to would deal specifically with demyelination, which they said the areas might be suspicious of. Has anyone with VEDS had problems like this?? Thanks again Betty

Hi Betty, So glad you got the results and they don't seem threatening at this point. Please let us know what the neuro says. Good luck, we're all pulling for you!
