Guest guest
You know, its really hard for someone who doesn't know you to say that a particular PDA is what you want or need. I am on my third PDA. The first one was given to me in 1998, and it was the very first Palm by US Robotics. I loved it, used it all the time. Then it died and I couldn't afford to replace it. About a 1 1/2 years ago I bought a " new " Palm from Palm online. Its an M130, color screen with 8 MB of Ram. OK. If you don't know what I'm talking about with the RAM, that is where you need to start your research. In any case, I got is as an " open box special " which means someone bought it and didn't like it, or bought too many for their company, whatever. Palm certifies it, makes sure it works, and sell it again for cheaper. It works perfectly, but I found that I needed more 'on board' memory, so I gave that one to my daughter and bought a Tungsten T2, which has a fast processor, 32 MB on board ram, plus, I have a 256 MB card, and a 512 MB card (at Costco the 512 MB card was $52). That means that there are some programs that I keep on my Palm, and others that can run from an expandable card. I listen to audio books, and as a matter of fact, I only paid $80 for my Tungsten T2. That is very cheap, except that in order to get it for that price, it was an " open box special " plus I am doing Audible ($15 to $20 per month for 1 year), which sells audio books. I listen to audio books when I work out on my bike or my Bow Flex and I LOVE it. So, what you need to do, is decide what you are going to use your Palm for? It can carry MP3's (music format), audio books, some take pictures, most Palm's come with a data processor that works with Microsoft Office (excel and word), you can play games which I find quite enjoyable, PLUS keep track of your WW stuff. I obviously use mine for phone numbers and addresses, and it synchs to Microsoft Outlook, which also works with the Calendar. Look for a fast processor if you are a heavy user, and a good color screen if you think you need color. You can get a nice Monochrome (black and white) for under $100 now if you don't plan to be a power user. PLUS you can buy a keyboard for your Palm (I think it is a MUST) which means you can type your journal, emails (this feature is a little advanced for some), whatever you want to do, kind of like a lap top I think, only smaller. I'm sure I've lost you by now, so in a nutshell, do your homework. Go to places that sell PDA's and talk to the sales people, but DON'T take their word for it, go online and do a search on the ones you like and settle on. You can find out a lot from people who have them if it is a good deal or not. Like for instance, what kind of software will you be using? Not all PDA's are created equally, some use Windows CE for their " operating system " some use Palm. If you have particular questions, I will try and help. I used to buy technology for a living (before we moved) and really enjoyed it. As you can see, your question was rather broad and hard to answer. Go check out some PDA's either online and better yet, in person. Then write down questions so you can ask someone who knows, or me, if you made it to this part of my rather long email. Good luck, and Have FUN!! Some info on PDAs please? Hi all, I was wondering if those of you who use a PDA could give me the rundown on them. I have been looking at them and want to purchase one to use mostly for WW, but also for organizing appts. I wanted to know what would be the best one to get. I know nothing about them, don't even know anyone personally that owns one. Please tell me why you chose the one you did and what you like and dislike about it. TIA!
