Hi Mojo,

I take Zocor too and I have liver enzymes checked every six months by my PCP. It didn't sound to me like he wanted the responsibility to do the follow up on the 6-MP. I'll see what this new doctor has to say and if he wants to take me on as his patient. You know, I thought it was weird when I was told what to do if I had pains in my chest that radiated through to my back. Wouldn't you think a doctor would tell you to come and see him if that happens? This doctor has never once in 5 years told me to come back for a follow up appointment. I just call him when I need a new script written.

Hugs...

Carol

Re: Fw: Question regarding 6-MP

Carol. I don't know this drug, but I know one thing for sure. Any time you are taking a drug that may affect your pancreas or liver function you must be scheduled for regular blood work to check the enzymes and see whether there are any changes due to this medication. I never had problems with my pancreas until I was on Zocor for an extended period. Although I can't prove it I'm sure it is Zocor that started my pancreas problems. Still, my liver function was being checked on a regular basis. Same with Diflucan.

I think you should question the doctor. He can't just tell you to drop it if it starts bothering your pancreas. Once it starts bothering it, there's a chance you will be left with a bothering pancreas for life. I think you're doing good to question his attitude, and you should do something about it.
