Guest guest
Cheri, I go to a breast diagnostic clinic and they do ultra sounds and mammograms. How about an ultra sound? Love Lana Attn Ladies RE: Mammograms and EDS breasts Hi all, was wondering if anyone has had any alternatives to a mammogram...and if anyone else had (or has) the large sagging breasts problems....which I have had ...I *did* get a breast reduction a few years back, (gratefully for sure!)...however, even though " they " are much better than before...they have definitely started the EDS trait and are heading south ...much faster than what " normals " ... " would " do... Ah ...EDS...sucks!!!! anyway I haven't had a mammogram since before the surgery and would like to have more than (just) a " feel " type test...Is an MRI even remotely... appropriate? (having never had one)...or any other ideas?... Guest guest
Hi, Here they use ultrasounds a lot too. A friend's mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer, and it did not show on the mammogram, but they found it on the ultrasound... So now she started chemo and will have surgery after that... I have no clue if they use MRI's for that, but logically it sure sounds like something that could work... Aase Marit

Guest guest
Hi, How old are you? They say now that you should have a momogram every year from the age of 40. I just had one last week. I've been having them every year for about 5 years now, because I have fibroids. The place I go is wonderful. They do a real thourough exam. They have little fake boobs with lumps in them, so you can learn to distingush the bad from the ok. They are very caring and careful. Everything is warmed (with heating pads) and they tell you before you leave if there is anything of concern or not. Then, they get back in touch with you within a day or 2 with the final results. So, if you are 40 or older, you need one every year. It's the best defense - cause if they catch it early, they can cure it. Go get another one. It'll put your mind at ease, if nothing else. Big hugs,

Guest guest
>Hi Cheri, I would never have thought of that at all, had I not just heard of it. Up until just a few years ago, they sure didn't use it either for other things than pregnancy controls, ecchocardiograms (sp?) etc.. Then they found out that they could actually use it for other things too, and now it is getting quite common to use it even to check on rheumatic joints... A couple of years ago I needed to have my liver checked because of the Methotrexate (chemotherapy drug) I have been on for years for my psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis. Normally they do a liver biopsy, but I really felt unsure about having one because of the EDS. So I checked around a bit, and amongst others asked an internist/rheumatologist in South Africa who I know from the arthritis newsgroup. He suggested that I ask for an ultrasound and a scintygraphy (I can never spell that correctly, it is a scan they do after injecting a radioactive dye into a vein). My doc had never heard of using ultrasound for this, but agreed to refer me for this instead. And the doc who did the examination at the hospital, said that it actually gave a really good picture of how the liver was. So I ended up only having that, no scan. I am thinking that because of fragility issues and/or slow healing, in cases where we can have non-invasive tests done, we should go for those as long as they do give a good enough picture of how things are. It seems like the ultrasound can show a lot of things. The mom of a friend I mentioned earlier today, had a mammogram just a little while ago, but it did not show anything abnormal. But then she had bleeding from one of her nipples (which she may never had noticed if she wasn't sitting in the bath tub), so she went straight to the doctor because she knew that things like that is a reason for acting straight away. That was when they did the ultrasound instead, and she was told that the type of cancer she had, did not show up on mammograms. I have no idea why, I did not ask. But on the ultrasound they could clearly see three tumors... Guest guest
Hi Cheri, I had my mammogram recently and after seeing something in the x-rays, the radiologist thought an ultrasound should be done. Around the same time my cardiologist had ordered a CT scan of my chest . The CT scan report also showed the same report as the ultrasound. Perhaps an ultrasound would be an option for you. (My ultrasound showed a benign cyst). kindest regards, Joyce

Guest guest
Joyce! I have no idea this was happening in your life! I am so glad that it was a cyst, but the stress of the wait for results must have been enormous! I am glad that this is a benign situation for you. Your plate is full enough!
