Guest guest
Dear Lorraine, You wrote - my neck has been odd since whiplash in 1990 Hmmmm... I was rear ended badly back about 20 yrs ago causing whiplash. Years later I ended up with a headache in the lower back of my head that after 2 weeks of it I went to doc - a D.O. (doctor osteopathy). After doing x-rays and assessing my symptoms he said I had a subluxed C2 vertabre and he chiro'd it back. He said it was probably damaged in the car accident and wasn't picked up at the time. A bad cold with a cough had aggravated it. I had to have that done once more. This was all before my HEDS dx. Recently I supposedly had a rotary sublux of the C1. This time it was much more than a nagging headache that wouldn't go away. It was agonizing pain in neck and head. Apparently the subluxed vertabre ticked off a nerve. Just like what happens to my other joints, my neck problems have been steadily increasing and reached a point of rapid deterioration over the past year, year and a half culminating in this past episode. Something like this may be happening to you. The hospital didn't see it, nor did the ortho I went to have a clue as to what was happening. Check out this page http://www.ortho-u.net/o11/170.htm . And about 1/2 way down also check out Radiographs for Rotary Fixation, which describes the specific views etc that need to be taken to see a rotary sublux. With this being one that's hard to dx and rare to see it tends to be overlooked. You may also want to look into Neuritis - http://www.drlockie.com/disease/neural.htm . This can run the gammut from my excrutiating experience in my head and neck to the tingling pins and needles that happens with a pinched nerve like in TOS. I got great relief, not full mind you until the sublux went back, by applying pressure to the right area. If there is a specific area that hurts try applying hard pressure to the area say by lying on something hard pressing right into the spot. Stay on it till the pain goes away (may feel throbbing during all this) and then stay a bit longer. When you release the pressure you should feel something like a cool or cold whoosh in the area. I got relief after one day of doing this about 4 times. After 3 days I was much improved. Don't know if any of this will help but figured any info is better than no info :-))) Hugs, B.
