Have you tried putting your ear to the floor, this probably won't result in hearing the trumpet, but I have suggested this to someone else who is deaf, and they said they could hear vibrations (this was with the piano though...but worth a try!!) Playing percussion is a good alternative too - it's very tactile in that you 'feel' the beat and also visual because you can follow the beat with your eyes.
