I think Grace had a hybrid of FSR done with Gamma knife eqippment. No Gamma will not work on your spinal tumors. It will have to be done by CyberKnife or Peacock. Radiation has really taken off here and there are much more choices then there were even 10 years ago. In theory the radiation is applied to just the tumor (new computerized tumor mapping programs) The DNA of the tumor is messed up and the tumor cannot grow because of this. I still have seen some grow after gamma. If the center of the tumor is missed, that can happen. The side effects I have experienced have been swelling and headaches. They just give me steroids through an IV to control that. The head frame is a little uncomfortable, but nothing to complain about. I would definitely choose gamma knife over surgery! No, those tumors were not new ones. My doctors could see that those tumors were growing too fast, and they wanted to do something before it was too late. Besides the ten tumors treated with gamma knife, I have had three tumors surgically removed as well (two in the head and one on the cervical spine). I would have to say that I would choose gamma knife over surgery any day! I have a neurological exam and MRI every six months, so I feel my doctors are keeping a very close eye on the multiple tumors in my head and spine.
