I agree, and I wonder if the testing that I'm in the middle of will prove

that? I'm seeing a neurologist right now - partly because of progressive

weakness and because my arms and hands are falling asleep all the time, but

partly also because of my messed-up speech and not being able to remember.

This part just fascinates him, and he's always slipping little tests into

the conversation - a couple of weeks ago I " caught " him giving me the 5

minute Alheimer's exam (he seemed a little ticked off that I told my

husband what he was doing while he was doing it ). He's not finding any

pathology in my brain that would physically cause me to have the

difficulties that I'm having (CAT scans, MRIs, etc...), and he keeps

repeating over and over, " but fibro doesn't CAUSE speech and memory

defects! " . I'm hoping that by the time he's done with the testing and

still doesn't find anything organically wrong with my brain that he'll

concede that fibro DOES indeed call cause speech and memory defects! Just

my two cents :-)

Have you pointed out to him that a lot of us on the groups complain of

these very same things? I will say most of the reading on fibro I did,

didn't mention them, but they certainly didn't come out an say they

weren't part either. Just too many people complaining of the same thing

for it not to be part of it, not to mention the number of doctors who do

say it's part of fibro.

Well, Fibro does cause speech and memory defects and I can't imagine a

neurologist not know this. This was on one of the problems that first caused

my doctor to start thinking about fibro and he is a family doctor.

Oh, I can answer that one as the subject came up. What he had to say

about local support groups after he asked me if I belonged to one, and I

said no, was " good, because all they do is whine and focus on their pain

for about 50 minutes and about 10 minutes of time decently spent. "

Needless to say, as soon as I can find the paper again, I'm going to try

a local group for at least a meeting or two.

Well that doctor is ridiculous, doesn't he know that talking to

others that have the same syndrome you have actually makes you feel

better.

I hate doctors who don't support groups like that. They have their

place and our meaningful to the people that attend them.

I just *love* it when doctors just totally ignore what you're saying and

act like your symptom isn't really like what you're telling them it is.

What do they actually think that you'd make up a symptom like flaking

and bleeding, not to mention lasting for a year?? Oh doctor, I'm so

stressed by this dumb ole pimple that means the boys won't look at me

that I'm going to invent it's bleeding and flaking and exaggerate how

long I've had it, just so you'll get rid of it for me. What a total

idiot!!

  • 4 weeks later...

We can only hope . I would love to think that

another doctor finally sees the light that this isn't

anything to brush off and it attacks the whole body...
