Guest guest
Hi All ~ It's been a long time since I last posted but I have been reading posts. Our 4-year-old son was diagnosed with a mild-moderate hearing loss this past summer. My DH and I went through the same types of reactions as others have mentioned (i.e., saddness, anger, fear, sorrow, etc.). got his hearing aids at the very end of July and he's done very well wearing them. He is now receiving services through our school district in which a HOH teacher works with him at his day care. At the end of October I called the audiologist to make an appt because his hearing seemed to have gotten worse -- even with his HAs in, batteries working, etc. Our audiologist has been wonderful and she made an appt set up with an ENT. (This was not the original ENT we had as he was not in the office the day I called. This dr was willing to get in within a couple of days to check him out.) To make a long story short... this ENT ended up putting on drops for " a lot of wax and gunk " and that really flushed the goo out. She wanted us back in two weeks. We went back on December 21 (audiology and ENT) and hearing was still down. ENT recommended CT scan and genetics. So Friday, December 23 he had a CT scan (he did SOOO good. He was crying as he laid there asking for his mama's hand but he was very careful to lay very, very still. What a big boy!!) We have not heard the results of this yet. The genetics testing is scheduled for Monday, January 16 at 7:30 AM. I am having HUGE second thoughts about going through with this genetics testing. Won't the CT scan tell us if there is anything medically wrong? That's what I want to find out. Right now I want 's hearing to " stabalize " or whatever as much as possible. Poor kid ... seems that we're constantly going in for hearing tests, ENTS appts. Won't genetic testing tell us if this was past down through the family and if there's a chance to pass this on? I just wonder if this genetics testing is really necessary now at this time or if we can just hold off. I would think that the CT scan was the main thing we'd want done to see if there is anything inside that did not develop right or is fused or .... whatever. Any feedback would be great. Thank you! ~ Kay Mom to 8-9-01 mild-moderate HL -- diagnosed summer '05. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Photos – Showcase holiday pictures in hardcover Photo Books.
