Canned fruits and veggies

Can anyone tell me any general rules about canned foods. I've been reading

labels and many canned foods seem ok...but I remember reading a post a while

ago that indicated these were a no-no... It's just such a time-saver to add

canned cooked veggies like Veg-All to sauces, casseroles, etc.

I have always (pre-diet) avoided canned foods other than basic staples

(tomato sauce, soups, tuna, etc.) and I always rinse all the sweet

juice/syrup off of canned fruits when I use them.

I've noticed that some of the foods on the GFCFDiet list are in cans so I

guess that there' s nothing inherently harmful about canned foods...but I'm

still wondering.

Meanwhile I made a great easy lunch/dinner from Westbrae Organic Chili beans,

tomato sauce, instant brown rice, salt, onion powder and molasses. (Since

Ben's still pretty young he prefers sweet rather than spicy chili) I'm

thinking about adding some diced carrots and a bit of frozen corn and

probably will add some flax seeds just before serving.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!
