Hello everyone!

I really enjoyed today's meeting and since I know that I learn things

best by verbalizing them to others, I thought I'd share on the topic

from this week.

The topic is " Stages of Weight Management. " The very first thing that

struck me was that word " management " -- not " Stages of Weight Loss " --

but " Management " . I'll have to ponder *why* I like that better...and

what it means to me personally. But if it strikes you the way it did

me...please post a response and let me know your thoughts on why it is a

better word.

Anyway...the stages are the:

1. " Honeymoon " stage

2. " The thrill is gone " stage

3. " Renewed Resolve " stage

4. " Lifestyle Change " stage

The first stage (Honeymoon) is that new stage where the weight is coming

off, the sliding points tracker thing is fun, the journaling is cool,

the meetings are really interesting and everything is peachy.

The second stage is pretty self-explanatory! The THRILL IS GONE. You've

lost your journal (and not by accident), your scale, measuring cups, and

water bottle are collecting dust, and weigh-in is something you dread

(or avoid!)

The third stage is where you basically " kick yourself in the butt " -

this is a phase where YOU start defining your reasons for wanting to

manage your weight. This is a time for getting back on program, finding

out what works for you, and doing it!

The fourth stage is where the things that were once a drudgery and a

source of resentment (WHY do I have to journal everything I eat? WHY do

I have to eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day? WHY do I have to exercise?)

in the fourth stage, those things become a habit...not something you

dread. In fact, in some cases, they become a JOY!

I am definitely in the " renewed resolve " stage....

Where are you??

I am definatly in the honeymoon phase, but something is

different this time.

Yesterday I went over by 10 points (points system here in Oz is

different) but rather than not tracking it and sweeping it under

the carpet so to speak I'VE TAKEN CONTROL. I tracked

everything that went in my mouth (even the numerous glasses

of wine) know EXACTLY where I am and what I need to do to

fix it.

By next weigh-in I will have gained those points back and

probably will end up saving some.

We are off on holidays tomorrow to Townsville. They have a

beautiful area called the strand which has running/walking paths

along the waterfront. Our hotel is right across the road so there

will be plenty of walking happening and I also made sure the

the hotel had a gym. NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!

I'm going to take Tory's advice and not treat this holiday as a

reason to pig out. I WILL track each day, I WILL exercise each

day and I will ENJOY MYSELF even without pigging out!

Hi ; I thought you summed up today's meeting very well. Better than our

lecturer did. As to where I am right now...well, I have lost altogether, 25 and

1/2 pounds. Remember when in June I was ready to chuck it all because I was at a

stand still. After 4 weeks of agony, the scales, the plan, the journaling, and

exercise is all working again. They said it would, but my patience had nearly

run out. I started Fast Track 2 weeks ago, and it really works. You can only

stay on it for 2 weeks. You do 20 points a day total; only use your AP's if

necessary, and no Flex Points. That's it. So simple.

I usually do from 6 to 15 AP's a day, because I am out in the garden a lot, and

I volunteer a lot of garden activity to our Homes Association for common grounds

areas, I walk, and ride my stationary bicycle, and do aerobics. Gardening, when

you really work at it, can be anything from carrying 40 pound bags of material

for the garden (I call high intensity), to hoeing, digging, raking, to trimming

shrubs up over your head for 20 minutes or more standing on a ladder ( moderate

to high intensity) to pulling weeds for 1 hour.

As to where I am...I am back to seeing the plan work, and I am thrilled. I told

my husband today, when we were celebrating my loss today at weigh in, I sure

hope he can still have the same patience he had so lovingly before, when my body

goes into one of those awful plateaus again...I am not so naive that I believe

it won't happen...but I hope it won't be for a very, very, long time.

I enjoyed your post . Hope this was a good day for you. Wishing you good

days ahead. Pat from K.C.
