Guest guest
BTDT. Don't like it much myself either. Can you gate yourself in a room with him or lock yourself in a room with him? Preferably a room with a VCR and a place you can lie down and pretend to be awake, that is reasonably safe? I SO sympathize with you. Try to get some rest as best you can. Guest guest
Nope, Mr. Climber is not to be gated by anything. This is the child climbing the six foot fence. Ugh. At least he's not in a running mood right now. debbi --- Enter to win 6 free Disney DVD's http://tinyurl.com/3ztv Re: The Day from Hell... BTDT. Don't like it much myself either. Guest guest
Doh! This sounds just like Zach! I'm buying melatonin today! > We've been trying melatonin for the past few days and the dose was too low the first day but I got it pretty close yesterday. Buster woke up at 6:00am, not bad. He started the day with his usual running around checking all the security devices to make sure someone hadn't forgotten anything unlocked so he could go play where he wasn't supposed to. > > That being done, he decided to jump off of the dining room table-- over and over--which now has the hanging light too high to reach. He found the clean laundry in the baskets and threw it all over the room. Ugh. Okay, so I pick it up and don't put it away quite yet. Breakfast was an ordeal, he decided he was having none of his usuals. Everything was tossed on the floor. Double Ugh. Finally he settles for cereal with marshmallows in it. Then after the cereal was gone proceeded to dump the milk on his head. > > I clean him up and then it's back to the salt mines... the table and the clothes jumping off the table and throwing the clothes. Fun, huh? I figure he'd like to play outside in the backyard. Little blond man running back and forth in the back yard. Look no clothes! I got the clothes in the drawers now. But look, Ma, I can open drawers. Clothes everywhere, again. > > All he wants to do is run and jump off the table (of course, the clothes are fun, too.) At lunch, he doesn't like what we're having again and dumps it. So we get him some more cereal, but we had run out of what we had this morning (IOW no marshmallows). Nope this won't do, I barely catch it before it too is on the floor. Let's try outside one more time. > > Running and running and now add climbing on top of the file cabinet in the back yard. Opening the drawers and dispering the papers. Nude, again. > > Back inside the house, he is not happy with anything except the stupid table. After about an hour he finds a security breech and is in the laundry room. ARGH! Get off that, don't do that!! So we try the video again, and that's cool for about 10 minutes. But he wants to run and get into things today. So he's running up and down the stairs, checking his photograph, then back up the stairs, again and again, except this time he's found that the picture has glass and that's interesting. I caught him before he got to far with that noise. > > About 4:00 this evening he decides he must take a bath. Fine, we go in there and after about 5 minutes I start washing his hair, pouring water on his head, which is also fine. But.... he's falling asleep! WTF! I'm pouring water on him and his is really sleeping. Fine, take a nap, I'll wake you in an hour. Nope... I tried at 5, 6, 7 and 8 I figured that's that, it's a long night for me. So guess what? It's 10:15 and we're starting a new day--he's AWAKE, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Triple Ugh! > > debbi

Guest guest
Ooohhh, Debbi. I so feel for you. We've been there. Well, wihtout the outside option, cause we live in an apartment and is a runner, but...yeah. We've been there. I will go find that OT post right now and send it to the list. It sounds like Buster was having a major sensory day and perhaps the water finally calmed him enough to feel how exhausted he was. used to fall asleep in the swimming pool. No kidding. We'd put him in a float and he'd nap in it. This was pre-dx and we thought it was the funniest thing...Mikey + water = sleep! Too weird. Water provides wonderful deep pressure -- sensory input all over the body -- very calming to the nervous system. Jumping provides joint compressions which are also calming. Ditto running. For a long time 's pre-bedtime routine was to run up and down the hall, and jump when he got to each end. It seems counter-intuitive; these things should wind kids up, not calm them down! But our kids need that sensory input in order to feel in control of their bodies. This will happen with sometimes when he is getting sick, and often when there are weather changes. Fall a year ago was a horrid, horrid time... On the waking up -- I have been quite mean in order to get to wake up so that we can both sleep that night. Stripping him, rubbing him with cold baby wipes on his chest and back and face, getting into the shower with him, playing very loud music, even holding him upside-down...It depends how severe your sleep deprivation is...it has gotten pretty darn bad around here so I had a lot of motivation. It will get better. It really will. I hope you are asleep... -Sara.

Guest guest
Debbi, You're right, it sounds like a day from Hell! Have you tried a trampoline or swings for Buster for other movement ideas? used to empty dressers too just so he could throw the clothes up in the air and watch them fall to the floor. How about a small sandbox? The kids usually love to watch the sand run through a funnel or through their fingers. You could use a shallow storage tote to keep the sand in and cover it when not in use (in the backyard of course). Sue
Guest guest
Oh, DEBBI. Condolences. I have only had a day or two like that, and man, I do NOT envy your yesterday. How are you both today? (imagining Buster is just peachy-keen and you feel like death warmed over) Jacquie
