For Roche: I would not try to do a comparison of the two Drs or the results they

have achieved (even if you could develop a set of 100% complete criteria for

success). They are in somewhat different worlds---temporally as well as

medically---and finding a common level to do a comparison would be an impossible

task---even for a perfect statatician. Due to the variables introduced by each

patient's particular case, one should judge/conclude that both are acceptable

and the chance of a satisfactory outcome is highly probable for each patient

they agree to treat.

I'm diligently trying to wrap up research and get the show on

the road!!! All these success stories are making me antsy. My

question is: Do any of you know what the success vs. failure

statistics are for DR. De Smet and his resurfaces? Dr. Amstutz

released a 2-6 year follow up study (available at the JRI website)

and the numbers look good. But I have never read a negative word

about DR. Se Smet, and it would seem his procedure/recovery are

considerably faster. Any help would be appreciated!

Anxiously,

Chris

Stats of DeSmet is in the Files section on the left.

Select 'Files', subdir '2002 Euro Hip Society', and

'BHR-DeSmet.pdf'. There you find De Smet's awarded paper of Hip-

International.

Not only have I not heard a negative word or resufacing failure

among Dr. DeSmet's patients on this site, he appears to take cases

that others turn down, he never switches to THR during surgery, and

because of the way he groups overseas patients, most of us keep in

touch and are more likely than most patients to know of a problem

with another patient, in our groups at least. Actually, I find

this amazing for any surgeon or surgery. That doesn't mean there

aren't problems we don't know about, but the odds of success are

very high.

Finding resurfacing and Dr. DeSmet was like winning the lottery for

me!
