Keep in mind that magnesium citrate is basically sold OTC

as a laxative. Supposedly the citrate form is thought to

be absorbed better internally, but I still stick with the

oxide version (MgO) and split my daily 500 mg intake of it

into 250 mg morning and 250 mg evening...both on an empty

stomach.

When I first started experimenting with different forms and

quantities of this supplement, way over a year ago, I found

too that the citrate form caused me to have digestive problems.

The oxide form may not be quite as readily absorbed, but I have

no problems now.

It is hard for me read here about people taking over 1000 mg/day

of magnesium, wondering how their digestive system can handle

that much without causing upsets of varying degrees. Also, don't

start taking 400 mg of citrate all at once. Let your body get

used to it over a period of several weeks and then slowly increase

your intake while not creating any negative digestive side effects.

and what can be done about it, if anything?
