Guest guest
I'm going to share a retrospective with you all about calcium. For about 28 years I took my thyroid medication in the morning with a multi vitamin and calcium and then sat down to eat breakfast immediately. Then I was told about the calcium issue. No doubt it is proven and factual but from my vantage point I went through 28 years of not knowing and always had a suppressed TSH. When I was having trouble getting the calcium tablets into my new routine of 4-5 hours after my medication my endo told me to just make sure I got the calcium and if it affected my tsh he would increase my dose of T4. I am mindful of the time frame but when it comes down to the nitty gritty...really all I want is to get the stuff into my body.I have bottles of Caltrate Plus chewable at my computer, sink and bedroom. If the timing is wrong I take it anyway and not worry about it. In the overall scheme of things, if my tsh is rising and I am thinking it's because of the calcium...My endo will increase the T4 or I can be more careful with the calcium. For the last 7+ years it has not been an issue. I have tried T4 dosing in a number of ways...morning, Evening and middle of the night(dawn) when I wake up. For now I am comfortable with middle of the night. I have my meds bedside and take it whenever I happen to wake but I do not often get it at the same exact time each day. This gives me the whole day to mess with calcium and vit. suppplements.
