Guest guest
Heidi, I would start with the adrenals first, since adrenal insufficiency can cause both the low blood sugar and the low thyroid without it showing in the TSH labs. Guest guest
Is this a test I need to ask for?? They did the TSH test and it shows normal they say. But I know that something is not. I have been so tired this summer and my hair is so thinned out. It never used to be this way. Guest guest
If all they did was a TSH, it is definitely not enough. At the very least you need a TSH, Free T4 and Free T3. Plus you need to know the exact number of your TSH, because if it is 3.0 or more, then it is too high (and can also be too high when less than 3.0 if the Free's aren't right). Many docs use the old range with an upper level of 5.5. Do you know what your lab results were and the ranges that were used. If so, post them and we can respond to that. Adrenal insufficiency can cause your symptoms, but it can also falsly suppress the TSH, that's why you need to see the Free Ts. If your adrenals aren't functioning at a high level, they can't handle all of the thyroid hormones and they slow it down by lowering the TSH. Most symptoms can come from the hypo alone, but the low blood sugar makes me think about adrenals because cortisol is the hormone that regulates blood sugar and signals the liver for more glucose. My morning cortisol is way too low and would account for the blood sugar issues... Judy Is this a test I need to ask for?? They did the TSH test and it shows normal they say.
