Cindi, How funny is that? We must be soul sisters, I have long hair,

too. And I can wear different colors than I used to. I love all the

ones you mentioned, but I also wear bright colors like red and bright

blue and I can even wear fairly vibrant pastels. Kinda nice. And

people always remember who I am. Dixie

Never believe " normal " until you've seen the labs for yourself. What labs

did he have? Just the TSH? He should demand a Free T4 and Free T3 and

antibodies testing. My TSH was normal all my life until I got so sick I was

basically

just staying on the couch waiting for my heart to stop. Not everyone's TSH

reflects their thyroid status. Remember studies have shown 40% of folks with

thyroid dysfunction have pituitary dysfunction. So he needs to check this out

further.

I'm one of those silver haired people. Got my first gray hair at 13

or so, and that is a huge indicator of thyroid disease, per my dr. If

you can get him to go to a doctor who will do the whole battery of

thyroid tests, including the antibody test, that might do the trick.

If he is reluctant, challenge him to check his basal body temp for a

couple of weeks, if it is consistently low, that might encourage him

to start researching on his own. Good luck. What he doesn't know is

that constantly dieting when you are fighting this disease can make

the metabolism much worse. Dixie

and children. He is 28, and will be 29 in Feb. I have never seen so

much silver in a young man's head in my life! He's got so much on the

top of his head, and is constantly dieting with the Atkins diet, that

I'm really starting to wonder about him. He's also got the buddah

belly, and although he says they've tested his thyroid, and it's

'normal', I just can't get that silver hair out of my mind. I know it

reeks of autoimmune disease tendencies, but it reminds me of something

that happened when he was 17 and got very sick for several weeks.

being able to keep anything down, and elevated liver enzymes, but no

diagnosis. (imagine that?) He lost a ton of weight in those 2 weeks,

and when it came back, it came back with a vengeance. I'm really

starting to be concerned about this. If this keeps up, he'll have a

head full of silver hair by age 30, and to me, that is NOT normal.

I'm not even sure what to suggest for him now that he has insurance

with this new job in Dallas.
