Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions Kori, I guess the skin could be tender from the old sore, but that spot has had over 1 month -2 months to heal by now. Maybe it will always be tender? I liked the Duoderm, we've used it before, but it didn't really help. I guess because the pressure was so much at the time. Duoderm does help with relieving mild pressure, but mostly it's for friction sores. I guess I will have to see how the moleskin helps. Do you think I will have to use moleskin with the sandals forever? Freeman

Guest guest
Hey, I thought that it was okay that her heel is not going all the way down. I thought that would come with time. Is that not correct? Her heel is definently not going all the way down into the shoe on either foot, clubbed or not. I can't get her foot to remain stabilized either, I mean it moves around in the shoes. Is that okay? I think the shoes are a little too big, that could be contributing to my problems some. The shoes measure 11cm, Kaitlin's left foot is 9.5cm, her right foot is 10.5cm, I guess the size is close enough. It looks like she has alot more room than .5 cm to the end of the shoes. Her toes don't even go past the last strap on the bottom. I can't understand why though b/c according to the measurements they should. What do you think? I read the troubleshooting post on MD site, but that was mostly about how to put the shoes on right? Or is there another post on that site? I will look again just in case. Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement. I hope that her foot looks great/better in the morning. I really hope that a little moleskin is all she needs. The problem must be friction, it just has to be. I was so impressed when I first took the sandals off this morning...until I checked her heels. The tops of her feet looked better than they ever have after wearing a brace. I wanted to cry I was so ecstatic and then I looked at her heels and I wanted to cry because I was so frustrated! Talk about ups and downs. :-P Freeman

Guest guest
, That spot where the sore was is probably very tender. After Darbi's healing cast her sore was almost completely healed. When I put her shoes back on (remember having not necessarily learned that her heel wasn't down - thus not having fixed the problem yet) that sore was back with a quickness. I don't think it took even half a day before it was back, worse than it would have been had she got an entirely new sore. Maybe it's because *any* pressure on that area is aggravating the original sore? I'd go with the moleskin, and if the sore is where the edge of the leather sits, let it hang over or wrap it around the strap there. Also, maybe put a piece on her heel. I'm sorry you're still having problems, I hope it gets better soon. There is a product we used to heal the sore called DuoDerm and you stick it on the sore and leave it there till it falls off. They use it in hospitals for bedsores. I liked this stuff. Maybe your brace shop has some of that? That's where we got it from. Hang in there - let us know how tonight goes. Guest guest
, To make sure her heel is going all the way down, you can go to the MD Designs site and look thru the troubleshooting post. It might help some. There is almost no way beyond friction that the sandals can cause a sore on the heel, so the thought that it is rubbing friction is a very valid one. Also, what kind of socks are you using? As someone mentioned earlier, very loose knit socks could cause problems so it is best to have a tight knit style. Some amount of purplish discoloration is normal from pressure, but because you have had problems there before it is definitely something to keep an eye on. I also agree with Kori that duoderm is a good idea. it is very thin and would protect against direct friction. Let us know how it goes tonight and in the morning! Big HUGS, Angel mitchell sore/Help Hello all, The spot is on the heel of her non-clubfoot, in the exact same spot as before. It lightened up after a few hours without the shoes on. I know that the rubber heel part was not folded over. Her foot won't seat all the way into the shoes, so I am wondering if the spot is caused by friction. We already put extra holes in the straps to make them tighter. I put moleskin on her heel and in the heel of the shoe. I am waiting to see if that helps. I am scared because the sore is the reason that we ordered the s. I really hoped that they would fix the problem, but now I am really scared that they won't. I can't send pictures because my digital camera isn't working anymore. Any help would be great. Thank you so much for helping my little tenderfoot! Guest guest
FWIW - the duoderm only really worked under the healing cast and then after we cut the hole. Otherwise it didn't but there were other factors in play there too with the shoe pressing. Once the pressure spot was not pressing... well it worked great. But I left it there till it started peeling off and when it peeled off there was new skin there instead of a sore. So I agree, it only works if the circumstances are just right. Since I don't know much about the sandals I can't say what's going to work and what isn't - but I've worn birkenstocks lol... No, seriously though - I doubt you'll need it forever. Darbi has a scar, but since it got healed when she was about 12-13w old she hasn't had a single problem. The old navy socks are great. I don't think you could get much better. You're doing great . You're a wonderful mother doing so much to help your daughter, she'll never know how difficult this is for you and probably never appreciate it till she has her own daughter but that's the way it goes for us mamas :~} Kori At 07:53 PM 7/28/2004, you wrote: >Thanks for the suggestions Kori, >I guess the skin could be tender from the old sore, but that spot has had >over 1 month -2 months to heal by now. Guest guest
Hey! I hope things get better in the sandal department. We did have trouble getting 's heels to sit completely flat in her sandals when she first got them. It did get better after about a week. Her heels are still not completely flat but it's close. I've noticed some redness on the top of her foot after taking her sandals off but it goes away in a short period of time. Tha't about the only irritation that I've noticed until this week. She had a small spot on the inside of her right foot up near her toes on Monday. I think that her sock must have bunched up in that area somehow. Dr. Ponseti does recommend cotton socks like the Old Navy ones. I hope that your daughter had a good night and that her feet look better. I think you mentioned that she was tolerating the brace o.k. so that's a good sign. Just keep plugging along. You are doing all the right things for her. It will get better. Guest guest
It is okay for the heel not to be all the way down, but her non-clubfoot should have no trouble going all the way down. If her feet are moving around in the shoe, then you may need to tighten them more. That may well be what is causing the rubbing/sore area. The Old Navy socks are a great choice ;-) Kai's shoes were also a bit big to begin with but it give room for growth, which is really important in such an expensive shoe. from what you say about the measurements of the shoes and feet, her toes are probably not going forward all the way because her foot is not all the way down against the sole. That is where the tips on tightening the middle strap, then top, then back to middle come in. When you dorsiflex the foot before hooking the top strap, it helps drop the whole foot down into the shoe correctly, thus bringing the toes out further. We used to have this problem in the Markell shoes alot, and there was almost no way to make it NOT happen without hurting Kai. It is alot easier in the sandals. How did her foot look this morning? Angel Re: mitchell sore/Help Hey, I thought that it was okay that her heel is not going all the way down. I thought that would come with time. Is that not correct?
