Guest guest
I thought we had to pick 'international' names for our babies, given that they are half Norwegian and live in the UK, and who knows where they might travel. Also DH and I met in Italy, so we wanted an Italian touch. Plus I was keen that they had names that would be pronounced the same in both languages, so they wouldn't feel they had 2 identities. So their first names (Emilia and Sebastian) are just names we liked. Their middle names are Norwegian (to balance their very English surname of Wood), so Emilia has Pernille (pronounced 'Pernilla'), which is a really old Norwegian name, and Sebastian has s, which is the middle name of both my grandfathers too. It's a bit of a mouthful really (Emilia Pernille Rudland Wood and Sebastian s Rudland Wood) but a victory for compromise and international relations... also since they daily go under the names of Emilia Wood and Sebastian Wood when they become sulken teenagers they can always reinvent themselves as Pernille and s Rudland... which sounds rather more exotic!
