You just spent the first several months post-op tightening up the hip capsule, so now that it's all healed it should be tight. Flexibility comes back slowly. Even at 2 years I have a difference due to soft tissue. It has only been a tiny march of months, so why do think you are lagging? Also, why do you need to get more flexible? If this is interfering with something in your life that is one thing, but if not, so what? Note I train lots of folks in sports and many think they should be able to do the splits, etc. This just isn't worth the trouble, unless there is a need for it, and it can actually lead to an increase in injuries. If it does impact your lifestyle, then stretch a half-dozen times a day. E.g. by crossing your operated leg on top and just leaning forward, tummy to thigh (15 sec), then pulling the leg so that it crosses at the ankle and gently push the knee down to the floor (15 sec.). Repeat on the other side. This should take you all of a minute. You should see some improvement within the next couple of days. Hope this helps... Guest guest
Hi Be patient and be smart. I know exactly how you feel. I had bilateral resurfacing, and I'm dieing to get back to my martial arts and to playing tennis and golfing again. But, it has only been just over 5 months post op for me. Keep stretching, carefully and smartly, just as I am. We will get there. By the way, I have also been doing the stretch where I lay on my back, pull one knee up and try and get the other leg flat on the ground. I do this every night - even have my 5 year old sit on the grounded leg to help. It does work! Though the gains are very subtle, even the slightest gain in flexibility is comforting. By the way, the silver lining: I waxed the SUV and then cleaned the hot tub on Sunday, spent 5 hours, though tired afterwards I was pain free! I remembered how I hurt pre op just from mowing the lawn. Lfe is great! Guest guest
I have a bone growth too. Heteroscopic Ossification (sp?)its called. I hope to have surgery in December to remove it. It can take a long time for it to stop growing. Mine is nearly two years now, and it does restrict range of motion. It's a pain in the ass after thinking that the main implant will be the end of things, but you have to be patient. I'll post how i get on after the surgery. Take care and good luck. > I have had my right hip resurfaced in May,my surgeon has found a bone growth at the side of my hip wear the implant was placed. He has x-ray it and says i will have to see him again, when it stops growing? Guest guest
Hi, Go back into the archives for about now last year and you will find emails from a guy called Dasher who has gone through a similiar hassle............ From what I remember of his emails it did interfer with flexibility, though in my world I will be breaking out the champagne when I achieve 90 deg.........smile. Guest guest
Hi , at my first check 3 month after op, my ortho told me, that I have bone growth. He just told me to reduce my activities (biking, (nordic)walking etc.). I will see him over 2 month. And I hope it will be stopped then. In hospital I had some drugs, which should should avoid bone growing. I forgot the name. Also I have a problem with flexibility. At end of week 5 post op (end of a 3 weeks revalidation period) they told me, that the flex of my left leg is only about 70 degree (should be 90 or more degrees). I still have problems to lace my left shoe. The reason is probably the movement restriction before the op. So I have to work hard to get more flex. Sometime I think, isn't it the extra( normal again)length of the leg. Before op I had no cartilage and therefore the leg should be shorter. Also my muscles were very tight before (I biked a lot.) At the moment I still think everything will be good. h BHR L 170603 Dr. Hertel Cologne > > I have had my right hip resurfaced in May,my surgeon has found a > bone growth at the side of my hip wear the implant was placed. He has > x-ray it and says i will have to see him again, when it stops growing? > (minor surgery).Has anyone within the group had any bone growth > after surgery? > > Also i have notice that my flexibility is not what i thought it > would be,if i lay on my back my knee only goes to 90 degrees,i > cannot hold my knee on my chest? > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > > Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
