Guest guest
hey Bo, I'm 42 as well and 5'11 " weigh 180. I've been squatting sets of 6 at 175 lbs and probably could do more but dont have a spotter. my personal max ever is only 325 so I think you'll be doing sets of 300 in a year. But I get a real good burn at that weight and thats really what I'm trying to accomplish so I can increase my vertical leaping. I'm 13 months post-op and started by squatting just the bar at first and have moved up very slowly. I never was a power lifter but have lifted since I was 16 for sports. The progress I've made this past year seems about the same as when I first started lifting and developing muscle way back in high school because of the 10-12 years of atrophy (couldn't squat at all), so patience is key. I feel my legs can get back to being as strong as they ever have been in another year or two and it's not the hips, its the rebuilding of muscle. I just started doing power cleans again with the bar and 45's (135 lb), I tried 6 months ago but stopped because I wasn't ready for 135 and using 25's hurt my back cuz it was too low to the floor. Congrats, on your decision to go to Dr. De SMet. Let me tell ya, it feels reeeeeeal good to feel those muscles in the legs and buttocks again! jeff bilat 1/03 > Hello, > Im scheduled for a left BHR in March. 42 year old male, laborer > and powerlifter relagated to only bench press for the past few > years. Guest guest
Great to hear from you Jeff. I like to hear that others are doing some work out there. I believe you are wise to avoid big weights, plenty of good results can come from poundages that are easily handled, just increase the volume and speed. Nothing wrong with cleaning 135, just work to do more reps/faster. I see a lot of high school football players working hard to powerclean 135 convincingly. My worry is becoming overzealous and experiencing a failure of some sort. So Im trying to determine how strongly these deviices grow into place. The people at Midland seem to have the greatest confidence in them, and they project tremendous estimates on the MoM wear. I hope you have only the best of results!
