Hi all,

Well, today I go to my endo for the first of two Thyrogen shots. I had

Thyrogen back in 2000 so I'm very interested to see how this round compares.

Last time, within about 2 hours of receiving the shot, I did not feel well.

I got a headache and some mild nausea. At first I thought " This couldn't

be--I must be having anxiety. " By the next morning I was feeling better and

went

in for my second shot. Almost down the minute, the same side effects came

back, but a bit stronger. I then realized it WAS the shot.

I'm more than a little nervous about doing this again! I have a real fear of

" weird " drugs, and Thyrogen ranks right up there in my mind. I know I will

probably panic after the shot. That is why I'm having my dad drive me to the

endo today. My endo is about 40 minutes away and I really didn't want to drive

home alone in case I had a " rare " reaction. I know--I'm a nutcase!!!

Anyway, I've been doing the LID for about a week now and am already tired of

it. Thank GOD I'm not hypo. It seems that almost everyday I've been on the

LID, I've gotten a strange headache right after lunch. I usually have to pop a

Motrin and be quiet for awhile. I find it strange because I'm not a

" headachy " person. I still can't figure out what it is. I don't think it is

calorie

reduction. I have been on a " mild " Weight Watchers for about a month prior to

the LID and had lost about 5 pounds. So my calories were already reduced.

The only thing I can think is that I'm eating more carbs (muffins for breakfast

and more servings of pasta and rice) than I'm accustomed to. And then

there's the fruit. Seems that my sweet tooth has increased while on the LID and

I've been packing down mangoes, blueberries, cherries, etc. I can't figure it

out, but it is maddening. My weight loss has also stalled. So, I'm thinking it

must be a carb issue. Go figure, I must be the only person who doesn't lose

weight on the LID.

Well, I'll be leaving in an hour to get my shot. I will post again this

afternoon on my experience and how I'm feeling for those of you that might be

curious about Thyrogen.

Thanks for listening.

I have also gone through 2 series of thyrogen and experienced the

same symptons. The 1st time I did the shots in the late afternoon

and then sleep through must of the bad parts, but the 2nd time I had

the shots at 9 am and had to leave work about 1 1/2 hours after the

1st shot due to nausea. Didn't go back to work after the 2nd shot.

Hi again everyone. Well, I lived through my first shot yesterday (I think)

and am preparing for shot #2 this morning.

I have to say that this experience, from what I can remember, is a little

different.

I don't think I felt as bad yesterday as I did 3 years ago after the first

shot. I definitely had anxiety whch was causing it's own symptoms. About an

hour after the shot, I did feel a little strange. Can't be more specific, but I

felt odd--but not bad. About 3 hours after the shot I started getting the

fleeting headache but it was not enough to interfere with anything. What I

noticed most was that I felt very sleepy on and off. One minute I would feel

fine

and the next, I felt like I couldn't keep my eyes open. This happened on and

off all day. Went to bed at my normal time and seemed to sleep okay. I woke

up at some point in the middle of the night and was drenched in a sweat. I

didn't really feel hot, but I was soaking wet. After I dried off, I fell back

to sleep and woke up at 3:00 a.m. This time I had some mild queasiness. I am

up and drinking my tea now and the queasiness is still there. I don't need

to throw up but I do feel yucky. It's almost like morning sickness. Headache

is gone. I definitely don't have the energy I had yesterday in the morning

and I'm really dragging to get to my shower, get the kids up and out, and make

that drive to the endo.

So, all in all, I guess it's not too bad. I was ravenously hungry yesterday

which is tough when you're on the LID. Nothing seemed to satisfy me. At

least, the nausea will probably keep me from staring into the fridge today!
