Guest guest
Hi Irma, We are kind of in the same boat but I'm not as far along as you are in knowing exactly what I have going on and what can be done about it. I have had BC in the past and my last mammogram indicates that it has possibly returned. I have a biopsy on November 3rd and until that point I don't really know what my treatment will end up being. You obviously are farther along in the process, but I can sympathize with you on feeling so scared about the unknown. I've decided to take it one step at a time. While I am doing research on what my alternatives might end up being, I am trying to not be so intimidated until the time to be intimidated actually does arrive. So many nice ladies on this board have replied to me with well wishes, good advice and heartfelt sympathies. I just keep reading the posts, responding when I feel I can or should and trying to remain positive and hopeful. I found that a lot of the information on the cancer web sites is very scary to me (not the stuff here...mostly the medical sites); I've stopped reading most of it and am trying to make connections with professionals that will be helpful in whatever direction I end up having to take. One lady here on the forum said to get in touch with the patient advocate at my hospital; I did that today and the information I obtained there helped calm me a great deal. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Just keep reading the posts here and I think you can find some small peace until you know more. Hugs....Kim > > Hello Everyone, > > I went for my post-op appt to get my results from my lympectomy and > the SLNB pathology report and I did not get the reults I was praying > for. Guest guest
Irma, So sorry to hear the news. Lots of the gals here will have good stories to tell, and my friend had 17 nodes with cancer, had a mastectomy, chemo et al, and is going strong now 5 years out. She's a champ and so are you. White light and prayers for you. Guest guest
Irma, I am sorry to hear you didn't get the best of news. But remember that breast cancer is NOT the death sentence it was once thought to be. I had a mastectomy May 24, 1990 with 23 nodes removed and one was bad. I had 6 months of chemo, no radiation or reconstruction. Try to take it one day at a time or hour by hour if need be. I will keep you in my prayers. Hello Everyone, I went for my post-op appt to get my results from my lympectomy and the SLNB pathology report and I did not get the reults I was praying for. Out of the 4 SLN removed, 3 are cancerous and out of the 5 lymph nodes removed 1 is also cancerous. The surgeon informed me that the margins could not be cleaned and I have several smaller cancer tumors in my breast. (The MRI did not pick this up.) I am now told I need a mastectomy along with having my auxillary lymph nodes removed. I cannot even get a final report on my Stage until this new surgery is completed. Needless to say I am a wreck. I was told if 1 or more lymph nodes test positive then I cannot get reconstruction until I complete the rads for my breast, chest wall and lymph nodes. Its hard to say focused and positive right now....but I am TRYING! Guest guest
Hi Irma, I am awaiting results from a sentinel node biopsy. The first surgeon wanted to do a lumpectomy, but I went to the U of Chicago for a second opinion. They ordered an MRI and saw lots of other spots. They are not giving me a choice; I have to have a mastectomy and this should be scheduled within two weeks.(They won't let me do immediate reconstruction because I might need radiation.) This waiting is a killer and I'm probably driving my husband, 12 year old daughter and the rest of my friends and family crazy. Just hang in there, along with me, and we will get through this together. Email me anytime to vent because I am going through the same thing right now! Guest guest
Irma, I can tell the same story as the one below. My friend is still going strong 6 and 1/2 years later. She has been my rock.
