Guest guest
Hi everyone! went back to the clinic for his first check-ups since he's been home. One week today, and counting! His cardio gave him a clean bill of health, and we met his new endo, a Dr , for the first time. She says that his growth velocity is good, but she was using ped care clinic weights to determine this. Here's my concern. At the clinic, B weighed 5.04kg or 11# 1oz. None of the Drs, at the Clinic, were willing to give B his first Synergis vaccine, so we stopped at his peds office, on the way home. Because the vaccine dosage is determined by weight, his ped. re-weighed him on her scale. (This is the scale that we have been using for " official " weigh-ins.) There, he only weighed 4.606kg, or 10# 2oz. There is always a difference between scales, but an entire pound? His med dosages are being determined by his weight, as is his growth velocity, and this makes a big difference! The 10# 2oz weight actually makes more sense to me. For 5 weeks, had been on and off his feeds, but never at his usual rate, always lower, and usually by at least half rate. Part of that time he was only getting D10 IV support, other times he was only getting TPN and lipids. I couldn't understand how he would gain a pound under these circumstances. Would you inform the Drs, at the Clinic, about the differences in the weights? Another concern. This ped endo is willing to give GH a try, even at 13 months of age, but she is only going to do a trial run of 6-8 months. If she doesn't see significant results, she is going to stop the GH. She says that the research she has read, indicates that GH IS NOT really useful for RSS kids because they are usually not GHD. With all of his problems, would be considered a good candidate for GH at this point? Is he too young? Would the results be better IF we wait? These are all questions that have popped into my head after the visit, of course! LOL Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated at this point! Thanks to all!
