Guest guest
Hi Mikki, I am no expert by any means but you are “supposed to feel worse” by any standards — in fact there are no known side effects to T4 when dosage is at correct amount — you would only feel side effects if you were OVER medicated and that would be to feel “hyper” symptoms. I think what you are experiencing is your HYPOthryoid condition and the meds are not kicking in — are you taking them first thing in AM on empty stomach and waiting ONE HOUR before eating? Sue Well I've been on synthroid for 2 weeks, and Kat THANK YOU for warning me this would happen! I've been in such a fog all week I've just been laying on the couch after work, unable to spell or think properly, headachy, and I'm glad I knew it was coming or I'd have freaked!! It's not like my DOCTOR said anything ... how long does this phase last though? My house is getting pretty dirty LOL. I was wondering what ya'll thought of this though, I have started taking my temps through out the day and they actually go DOWN during the day. My morning temps are up (sometimes as high as 97.5) but by 2pm they are down around 96.5 again. Does this make any sense??? I know I'm supposed to be tracking my adrenal function by doing this but I'm not sure what the results mean! thanks,

Guest guest
LOL I'd hardly expect anyone to remember my lab values ... just didn't realize it might be important! I've only had 2 TSH labs done this summer, one was 2.91 and the other was 2.82. I don't remember the other values, but the ladies here say they were all the wrong tests anyways (total T4 and T3, not free) ... they were in the low end of what my doc considers normal which probably means they are horrible He didn't do any antibody testing either so I don't know WHY I'm having a problem... anyway I've been on Synthroid 50 micrograms once a day for 2 weeks ... I'm just a thyroid baby in my first medicinal adjustment Mikki Re: 2 weeks into treatment... Guest guest
Hi Mikki Yep most docs would not treat you, being “in range” -- my first endo “treated me down to 2.5” IDIOT! Now I am at about .02 and need to tweak up a bit cuz I was getting hyper. Are you going to get a full thyroid panel? You really do need the Free T’s... It’s crucial for proper treatment..it may be the T3 you need. My TSH was about 1 BUT my T3F was 240 in a range of 230 to 420 so it was VERY LOW and when we added cytomel to my meds, T3, I got energy like you would not believe, it’s awesome IT’s a mood elevator as well... Guest guest
Yes I plan on asking for a full panel and antibody testing with this new doc next week! Although since I've had 5 miscarriages and 2 full-term (well, almost!) pregnancies including twins in 5 years, that may have been enough to get me out of whack. Particularly since my first bout with hypothyroid was after my first miscarriage 12 years ago and it corrected itself during my first successful pregnancy... I've heard a lot of ladies say they love their Cytomel, I am DEFINITELY going to ask about it! I guess I need to make a list of things to ask for/about in case Wednesday is a brain fog day thanks! Guest guest
Hi Mikki, Yes, definitely make that list—though, sometimes I actually sometimes FORGET I had a list LOL :-0 The Cytomel works for those of us who can’t for whatever reason, convert the T4 into T3--- I had a “normal TSH” but my T3 was rock bottom — what a difference it makes... I loathe taking drugs but this one really does the trick. Sorry to hear of your miscarriages Keep on posted on your results. sue Yes I plan on asking for a full panel and antibody testing with this new doc next week! Guest guest
LOL I've forgotten my list many times too! The endo I went to last month did mention a problem with conversion (I guess based on my uptake being high?), so Cytomel may be magic for me... I can always hope at least!!!! My total T3 was 91, which he said was "normal" but another nurse I know said is hypo ... I guess I am marginal all around, but I still think I deserve treatment to function normally just as much as someone with "definite disease", ya know?! The miscarriages were tough, but I have 4 great (if loud - as three of them go tearing by with their musical push toys kids now so it's all behind me Mikki Re: 2 weeks into treatment...
