Hi Kathy,

I had my surgery (TT) in August 2002 and still have a pretty nasty

looking scar, with a little keloiding as icing on the cake! I was

fine during the winter because I already had quite a few turtle necks

and bought more. But I started to panic as spring approached. I did

find a few nice sleeveless and short sleeve turtle necks at my 2

favorite stores - Marshall's and TJMaxx - at great prices. too! But

they are very hard to find. I get a few mail order catalogs and

fashion magazines and have to work hard not to be depressed when I

look at all the gorgeous summer dresses, and slinky tops. Oh well.

I told my husband that I should start a line of turtle neck designs -

dresses, sweaters, blouses, etc. - for thyroid patients, and other

neck surgery survivors. Are there any potential partners out

there....anyone want to go into business with me :-)

Kathy:

I had my surgery last August, so I wanted to keep my scar covered up

in the sun. I opted for fun scarves. I'd tie a cute, chiffony scarf

around my neck and wear sunglasses and I looked very 1950's movie

star. It was fun!

Now, I wear sunscreen, but other than that, I don't bother to cover

it up. It doesn't bother me to have others see it, and most people

don't seem to even notice it anymore. Even if they do, I don't care!

--Kathy, I use a great concealer by Prescriptives. It is called

Camoulflage Kit. You can get it at any Major Department store at the

Prescriptives Counter. They match your skin tone. I used it to hide

my scar from my Grandmother when she came in from Florida. She never

noticed it. It is quite costly though. It is around $28.00 and it is

not too big. I do however highly recommend it.

It doesn't have any sunblock in it so you have to use something else

at the pool or beach. It will get pretty hot in a turtleneck at the

beach :-)

Take care.

Hi Yvonne

I also had my TT Aug.2002. I live in New Jersey and find that the weather is

usually to hot for any kind of turtle neck tops.

Many department stores have a variety of very attractive scarves. My can

wear a scarf with any of your summer tops.

I had my surgery on 4/2 of this year and when I was able, I went to

go find some short sleeved/no sleeve mock turtlenecks. I had a hard

time (and many sales people looked at me like I was crazy for asking)

but I did find both short sleeved and sleeveless at JC Penneys. I

have found that now I just sport my scar -partly because I got sick

of wearing the same shirts over and over and partly because I got

over trying to make others feel more comfortable instead of myself!

The first time I went out with my scar exposed I was looking around

to see if anyone was staring but I haven't really had that happen.

Hope you can find them!
