Guest guest
If you plan on getting your protein from protein drinks, then the first priority would be limiting your sugars. Any ingested proteins are then " gravy " . Pam in Niceville question Ok, I have a question.... I know we are to get as much protein as possible.... I know we are to have as little sugar and carbohydrates as possible..... So what do we go for first the more protein or the less sugar /carbohydrates? And what was the total (or most) sugar gr. / carbohydrates grs. we are to have in a day? Thank you so much... I was reading the back of packages in the store yesterday and didn't know what to buy the more or less of... from PA
Guest guest
Hi , I'd assume that urine protein is a bit elevated. Double check what the first urine of the day looks like. If it still looks foamy, I'd give the doc a call. Do you keep urine sticks in the house? You can satisfy your curiousity that way. I wouldn't panic - a little bit of protein can cause a LOT of foam. However, it's still worth a call to the doc. BTW - thanks for listing the tests that correspond to RA. I knew you could answer that better than me! Guest guest
I was just wonder at what point do you start either dialysis? And at what point should you be place on a transplant list? Both of these questions are just for knowledge now. Blake's follow up appoint will be July 5th. This will be our second appointing with our current nephrologists since his being diagnosed. I am getting a little nervous about his appoint, guess I don't really want to know if there are any changes. But then again I keep hoping it's not the aggressive type of IgaN. Also is there anything I should ask the doctor on this visit. Still new at this. As the only other visit we've had was the initial consultation and diagnosis, still unsure of what to expect. I don't post often, but glad that I found this website. It adds warm knowing there are wonderful people such as all you guys and gals here. I feel like I'm not alone in all this. To all of you a big pat on the back. All of you on the list are in my prayers. God Bless & Hugs Tammy - Blake's mom
Guest guest
Hi, Tammy. Most doctors start talking about dialysis when a patient gets to around 20% function, because it's better to have prepared for it in advance. The access takes about 2-4 months to mature before it's strong enough for use if you get a fistula for hemodialysis. If you are doing PD it takes about 2 weeks to heal, but can be used almost immediately. They generally target the 10-15% function range for actually starting dialysis but it really depends on how the patient is feeling. As for transplant, you can be added to the waitlist at 20% function, this level is determined by UNOS the people who administer the list. Most centers will also do transplants at 20% function, but I think I've heard others will wait until you're down to 15%. Some nephrologists will take their time referring a patient for transplant, but if you plan on being on the waiting list the sooner you get on the better. Patients can also self-refer. I'm at 18% function and am being added to the list this week. If my living donor works out we could be having the surgery as early as mid-July, one more test to go! I hope this has helped, Kathleen > I was just wonder at what point do you start either dialysis? Guest guest
The caffeine has been linked to having lumpy breasts. I don't think it has anything to do with the scars, but could be a lump from the caffeine. My doctor is always telling me I drink too much caffeine and my breasts are really lumpy. They are more likely to come and go quickly. but for sure watch it or get it checked out. i waited 6 months and quit caffeine only to realize that one lump was more than caffeine related. > marianne- what kind of problems?
