Time to Get (Really) Serious

Hi,

I've been reading the posts here and am feeling so much better after

having been in a semi-slump for a couple of weeks.

First of all, I should introduce myself. My name is Jackie, I'm from

Brooklyn and I've done WW in the past but joined again in the summer

to try & lose the weight I'd gained back. I went through a pretty

stressful time taking care of a family member who was ill & basically

ate fast-food all the time. It's been three years today since she

passed away, and I've made lots of progress in getting back to where I

should be in terms of self-care, but I still have a tendency to not

take time to take care of what I need to eat. That being said, I've

been going to meetings faithfully, and was very happy when the Core

plan came out because I found it easier to not count points and lose.

Then a couple of weeks ago I went on vacation and had a hard time

sticking with Core foods with eating out every meal, and being with a

thin boyfriend who ate whatever he wanted and made comments about what

I was eating. Since I've been back I switched back to the Flex plan

just to get more disciplined, but I just was feeling kind of

discouraged. I'd been going to meetings with a friend from work who

just joined, and really doesn't like the meetings much, and I admit I

found myself being not as enthused to go when she was negative about

it. Then I read the message about what to do regarding the lack of a

buddy,

" ...here's what you do. You just do it. You simply do it because

it's a healthy way to eat. No meeting? Join Weight Watchers online or

do the at home program. No friend to go with? Share your successes and

ask your questions here. Make it simply a part of who you are... "

That's exactly what I need to hear! Not what other people are saying

about what I eat or how I look, or how someone else is messing up on

their program. This group is so positive, it's really what I need to

get me feeling hopeful again. So thanks! I think it will do me a lot

of good to post more instead of just reading, hope I can be just as

positive.

HI Jackie

<< I went through a pretty stressful time taking care of a family member who was

ill & basically ate fast-food all the time. It's been three years today since

she

passed away>>

My father died of Leukemia 3 years ago this past June (Although it STILL seems

like yesterday!) and that is where I also hit bottom with my weight. I had

already been about 30 or 40 pounds overweight for several years, but from the

time he was diagnosed in March of 2001 until his death in June of 2001 I put on

a VERY unhealthy 35 pounds! I am sure it was the stress in addition to eating

horrible fast food and fried fattening hospital food on the run. The summer

after he died I put on an additional 20 pounds....I mean I hit HARD!

I think the thing that put a knot in my tail last year was knowing that it would

have hated knowing how much weight I put on...he was a very fit, healthy nut. I

also know that when I lost this weight (Which I WILL) he would have been the

first to hug me and tell me how proud he was of me. Thats what finally got me

to break down and go to my first WW meeting last week.

I wish you the best of luck!
