Guest guest
For my son, who is tremendously sensitive to phenols, having only a few sips of OJ once a day can get him really irritable. I wonder if all the OJ is causing a problem? Debbie

My son did not tolerate most supplements. Which ones did you add? Try removing them, wait for him to stabilize, then add them back one at a time, at low dose, to see which one/s might be the problem. > 1) We started epsom salt baths (small amounts) about two weeks > ago. My son did not tolerate OJ, even with enzymes, until round 70 of ALA chelation. You can try giving it with No-Fenol enzyme, if you want http://www.houstonni.com/ > 3) We just had to take him to the ER on Sunday (odd behaviors > started before that but have gotten worse since) w/ cellulitis (an > infection from a tiny cut on his ankle) and now he is on > antibiotics. Yes. Try using GSE or oil of oregano or other similar yeast killer. Dana
Guest guest
My son does not do well w/ OJ. I would take every thing out for 4 days and restart. A reaction should occur w/in 15 minutes. Guest guest
, Allie would cry and have diarrhea after any fruit juices but pure pear or mango. We finally realized she has a salicylate issue. You can get pure pear, but it's more expensive. Check the ingreds to make sure grape or apple isn't added in. You might also wanna stop the supps and start over in a few days when you have a chance to see if his behavior improves. I would also suggest some probiotics and yeast fighters like GSE. Guest guest
I'd first suspect the orange juice since you removed it with the diet. Then I'd suspect something in the supplements or the supplement itself. Then maybe the antibiotics. Since you said the difficulties started before the antibiotics and it typically would take a week or more for yeast build-up from an antibiotic, I'd think the current problems would be more likely due to the other things. To counteract problems from the antibiotic, you could give your child just about any milk-free beneficial bacteria supplement found at most health food stores and many grocery stores now. Avoid the ones with FOS and " immune boosters " since FOS can feed some bad bacteria and " immune boosters " sometimes worsen symptoms in kids with over-active immune systems. Guest guest
suggestion.... Don't eliminate the juice cold turkey, but add about a tablespoon of water to it, tomorow 2 tbl ect until you get to pure water. If you have to, start with a tsp. You want them to keep drinking!! We did this with Grace and now she prefers water. Make sure the water is really cold! I freeze half a water bottle and fill it in the morning for school. All the kids in her class where so impressed how her mom must have gotten the ice in there. We have a bottle of water in the refig and ice. Guest guest
, antibiotics were what started my son's autistic symptoms at age 3. So yes, antibiotics can cause some bad behavior. IT is probably yeast from antibiotics killing out all the good bugs in the gut. The yeast can make the kids crazy to say the least. See if your local health food store has any Primal Defense. If so, get some of that in him, along with any other probiotics they have. I have quadrupled my son's probiotics, quadrupling from three different brands, all at once, to get the yeast down. Jennfer Ruston, Louisiana [ ] Going downhill after much progress Our son has been gf/cf for about two months, ever since we suspected he was autistic. He has been responding wonderfully, and for this we are very very thankful. We started him on supplements about three weeks ago. About a week ago we started to see some behaviors that are very troubling - back to the inconsolable tantrums, shreiking, stimming non-stop, gibberish, etc...and these things had all lessened (very much so) in intensity since starting the diet. Things are almost worse than they were before we started the diet!! Can any of these things be the culprit: 1) We started epsom salt baths (small amounts) about two weeks ago. Can this possibly change a child's behavior so intensely? 2) We caved in and started back again w/ OJ. We eliminated OJ when we started the diet, only to start again when our son refused to take the supplements w/ anything other than an OJ/pear juice mixture. No other juice/smoothie/etc would work. Drinking four sippy cups approx. 1/2 full of OJ per day. I know this is not good but I was so anxious to get the supplements in I didn't care about the OJ....maybe bad choice. 3) We just had to take him to the ER on Sunday (odd behaviors started before that but have gotten worse since) w/ cellulitis (an infection from a tiny cut on his ankle) and now he is on antibiotics. I asked his DAN! Dr for advice about what we should use to take to counter the effects of the antibiotics but we would have to order them from the distributor and he'll practically be done w/ antibiotics by the time we get the probiotics she suggested! Two things: 1) Can anyone suggest something to counter the antibiotics that can be found in my local health food store and 2) could his taking antibiotics affect his behavior like this? I am posting this question here b/c I know a lot of you on this list REALLY know what you are talking about. Any advice will be welcome. Guest guest
If you have worked soy in as a replacer for dairy, try removing it. Soy can end up being just as bad as casein. For GFCF friends I have spoken to, the diet should GFCFSF from the get-go. The parents that I know who have removed soy have seen the gains return and stay. Soy ingredients also include lecithin, natural vitamin E or tocopherols (most often soy derived). Natural vitamin E is used as a preservative in many GFCF cereals. Rice Twice is the only one we are eating now. Gelatin cod liver oil caplets also contains soy as vitamin E in it. I have my son take the Kirkman's liquid in a bottle (the only brand I could find w/out soy)which he takes from a spoon. He has maple syrup on another spoon for a chaser. We are off the following things, in addition to GFCF: soy egg (we'll allow one every couple of months when I make donuts) gelatin yeast artificial food coloring citrus (only allowed on a rare occasion) I suspect vinegar may be a problem for my son too. I will be challenging him with it when I can get him " cleaned up " from a recent diet infraction (which has been miserable). One last thing --- my son can't be around wheat flour that someone is cooking with at all. Airborne wheat will make him " drunk " . Crumbs of non-gfcf food should be treated like poison, too. Aslo check sunscreen ingredients. I hope this is helpful to you. Best of luck. Peg in Hampton NH > Our son has been gf/cf for about two months, ever since we suspected > he was autistic.
