Guest guest
Hi everyone. I'm 33 and newly diagnosed. I went from no family history to a family history when my 24 y/o sister had breast cancer diagnosed almost 3 1/2 years ago. She was classified as stage II and thankfully has been in remission since. I went in for a routine diagnostic mammogram based on a physician finding a lump in my breast. A repeat exam the week later the lump was not palpable anymore. Erring on the side of caution the physician ordered the mammo anyway. He explained that with fibrocystic breasts often times lumps do come and go so needless to say I was not prepared when the radiologist called me back for a mammotome biopsy. The path came back with DCIS with cribiform and solid cells with comedo necrosis. I've researched and have gotten really upset at interpreting the path report. I have decided that based on our strong family hx. and not wanting to potentially deal with this again I am having both breasts removed. I have 2 young children (4 and 7) and want to be here when they get old! I am so grateful for this website as I can connect with others who share similar feelings. I am trying to take a day at a time instead of projecting what the final path will be but I'm afraid of the results. I purchased a book called, " The Cancer Vixen " and it has at least provided some comic relief despite the stress of the unknown. I hope to learn a lot from all of you as well as be an " ear " to hear from all of you.
