Re: " Downtown monuments, " editorial, Review-Journal, July 27

As a resident of Las Vegas for almost 28 years, I am very proud of the

new County government center complex -- " $129 per square foot " was a

bargain for this beautiful building. It will outlast any " value engineering "

I have observed; for instance, the new Nevada government structure with its

" sick building " syndrome at Washington and Las Vegas Boulevard North.

The new construction to match it, the building to be shared by the

Regional Transportation Commission and Regional Flood Control District, is

equally wonderful; " $142 per square foot " was a super value when this great

building will be here long after most of us are gone.

My congratulations to County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury for his

leadership and his outstanding planning.

Let's hope that if they put up a " value engineered " entertainment

complex and sports stadium next to these lovely buildings, they will build

with equally good taste.
